What the Billy boys and jacobite were and are in the British Isles is not what they became in North America. Many settled in the Mountains and a culture developed known as Scotch-irish. So there is over in the USA a new culture stemming from the old. Most know scotch is whisky and Scots is a nationality that is subsumed by the larger Anglo Saxon dominated British Nationality. The accents of Ulster are distinct from other parts of Ireland and also distinct from the lowland Scots are Northern English. To the English the Ulsterman is just another drunken paddy with a stack of ancient grievances settled generations ago.To the British Infantryman, Artilleryman are Cavalryman, Raf Regiment Gunner are Royal Marine Commando they were Bogwogs. A term used to denigrate the criminal lunatics on both sides. All regiments loathed their tours in that rainswept bigoted province. Even highlanders from say the Black Watch are lowlands from say the King's own Scottish Borderers. Northern English regiments like the King's own Royal Border Regiment are the Green Howards loathed loyalist and republican alike. All regiments that sadly no longer exist subsumed in mergers to form the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Duke of Lancaster Regiment, the Yorkshire Regiment. The first battle honor of the Green Howards was the Boyne, raised In Somerset in 1688. They fought and won all four battles in the Carolinas in 1781that they were engaged in and left for Jamaica and then Ceylon.By the 1750s all recruiting links with Somerset ceased send it's title became the 19th Yorkshire North Riding Regiment of foot. Like all British Infantry it amassed several hundred battle honors but was only allowed to choose a small number for enblazonment on the colors. I digress but like most recruits up until the 1880s the English and from 1707 British Army was manned by 70% Irishmen in all Regiments including Scottish Infantry and Cavalry. In 1815 the 30.000 British contingent at Waterloo was 80% Irish and 8% German. After Waterloo the vagrantcy Act which penalised the War veterans was brought in. British governments have always shitted upon the very men that saved their country. Today the cultic people's who once lived in the whole of Western Europe are relegated to its fringes. A people that kept the Romans out of what is today Scotland and Ireland. They could not keep out the germania and norse tribes though for they eventually overcame and remained the dominant tribes of the British Isles. But the celts and germans United on the islands became the dominant world power and gave rise to the modern world. Its navy is the Ancient and modern world's oldest continuous Armed Force. 882-2016. The Isles of Avalon, set in a silver sea, a chequered history matched by no other in history, a glorious and a tragic history combined. Islands shrouded in mist and legend. The modern day Briton is sadly radically different and certainly less tough and Hardy than passed generations. Islands that have fought more rebellions and civil wars than any other nation state. A union of nations under one government long before many modern European union nations even existed. Of the 5 nations that colonised north America it was the Anglo Saxon culture that eventually dominated. The Anglo saxons include Scandinavians, Dutch germans, English, Scots, Irish, Welsh, Manxman, Norman channel islanders. Fierce warriors and adventurers all. United in some ways and divided in others. Today we are scattered around the globe. New English speaking nations having been created by trade and empire and political and religious persecution. When the Spanish and Arab legionaries left to defend Rome in 476 a new era of migration came from the east and the beginning of the British trully began. The softer modern British citizen has the genes of many nations and races and cultures within them. Their ancient and proud past all but forgotten.I in 4 Americans, some 75 million people have British Ancestry and 200 million have Celtic and Anglo Saxon direct living relationship ancestry. It is true to say that most conflicts these past centuries have been cousin fighting cousin. America, British, Canadian, Australian, new Zealanders German all cousins. Fritz, hank and Tommy in North Africa, Italy, Normandy killing each other enthusiastically were mostly close or distant cousins. Hisenhower, Anglo German, Montgomery. Anglo Irish. What people were in one place became another related but different culture when transported to another land and so. a sub culture begets a culture. Dialects change along with environments but our genes carry our true origins and identities which are multi cultural. Many people on these boards who insult each other are cousins yet do not know it. The vast majority of U.S. presidents are related to the British Royal Family by from 4 to 17 generations removed. So the next time you stand Outside Buck house are Windsor Castle,Sandringham house,Balmoral Castle, Holywood palace, you can shout via loud speaker, howdy cousin Liz and cousin Chuck it's cousin hill Billy from Tennessee here are you going to invite us in for Dinner? Then cousin Alf the Bobby and cousin Tom the tough combat Infantryman in his fancy dress outfit will escort you away. British soldiers are not toy town soldiers and even the majority of young fresh faced teenagers among them have seen the face of battle. In many Armies soldiers have rows of ribbons for things like being qualified for this are that but few if any for campaigns are gallantry. In the British, Australian, Canadian and new Zealand Armies those ribbons are not boy scout achievement awards like in most Armies, such badges are worn on the arms are above the ribbons. They are, awarded for battles fought, peacekeeping operations and gallantry awards for bravery. No qualification badge hangs there. The British Establishment are mean bastards and do not hand them out like confetti at a wedding for any excuse reason. The recipient has risked their life for that cheap colored cloth and cheap metal. Even the commonwealth most prestigious medal and rarely awarded medal is s cheap piece of melted down rusty old captured Russian cannon. Since 1660 there has only been a single year, 1968 when the British forces in particular it's army, has not been on war fighting or peacekeeping operations. No other nations army has seen such sustained warfare. It has been badly led at times but it's soldiers have saved many s bad generals reputation with their skill and courage. It is the only army were soldiers instruct officers in war fighting tactics. In other Armies officers teach officers. How this thread developed from a joke about knee guards designed to appear racist and antagonistic to this is the evolution of message passing changes in motion.

Is that what that was? I thought it was a little boy proving to the world there is a very good reason he is sitting at home alone with his computer on new years eve.

Oh boy...... you picked the wrong person to argue with on that one!!

If I had to guess, I would say he knew that and that's how he picked his name. Of course that could just be the cynic in me but it smells like someone has a hardon for the lady and thinks socks is the way to get her attention.

The accents of Ulster are distinct from Scotland and England because over here accents change every couple of miles. Where I live in Northern England you can drive 5 miles down the road and there is a marked difference in accents.

That doesn't really mean much.

And, the fact that you have termed the 'Scots-Irish' only means something in the event you value projecting your opinions of a people a couple of hundred years after the event.

Believe me, those people from Ulster, protestants, would not have considered themselves to have been anything remotely Irish. If you want to think otherwise and term them 'Scots-Irish' then that's fine but it ain't applicable to those settlers in reality.

It should be obvious really considering Ireland is a catholic nation. The Irish colonised places such as New York, not the South.

When I was over there I went to a few museums and it was common to term them 'the Scots-Irish'. I did consider dropping them a line to say they weren't Irish when I got home but lost commitment to it within seconds of stepping on the plane.

These myths seem to have gathered over there and in one of those museums I read something like: "these people rejected English rule and moved inland". Nonsense. They were the most loyal of British subjects, still are today far more so than the English.

What they rejected was the Anglican Church. The Church of England, or Anglican Church, has always largely been a church of the shires and of the South. The North of England is completely different. It's always been more non-conformist. A lot more catholics in the North, more Methodism etc, and of course the Scottish religion is Presbytarianism.

The people of Ulster, descendants of Northerners and Scots, rejected the Anglican Church - not English rule.

As for the cousins comments - nonsense.

The Germans are not our cousins. Some bloodline going back to 500AD, and it should be said that the Anglo-Saxons did not displace the Ancient Britons at all, means virtually nothing.

We have developed into a completely different country to Germany due to geography more than anything. As an island people fortunate enough to be stocked with natural resources we became a commercial nation, very outward looking, very middle-of-the-road. Germany on the other hand, always had the threat of an army marching over its borders and so that fear led to a more extreme way of doing things and a more introspective approach to life.

The English and the Germans really don't have that much in common in terms of values, culture and tradition - and some argument about blood is redundant considering that a lot more Poles, Russians, Jews of various countries, French etc moved here between 1600 and 1900 than Anglo-Saxons ever did.

I have given up trying to keep up with which one of the voices in his head is posting. They are all just noise to me, several voices that have merged into one long chain of verbal vomit.

I guess I'd have to give you the idea about the screen names, though most of them being used, I can't imagine folks actually wanting. I suppose it could happen. Who knows how many have been created now.

It is a shame though, about the fact that it makes the atmosphere harder for new people who actually do stumble on this place and actually want to learn something about BDSM or PE dynamics. If you were brand new, would this be the climate where you would want to be to ask a legitimate question? A board where some jerk is literally going out of his way to make sure that every screen name is suspected of being from the same manipulative <expletive removed> who couldn't care less if his antics make everyone suspect of anybody new? His grudge is so big he couldn't care less about that.
