Hope springs eternal. Physicians/Surgeons do not like medical scientists finding cures! Why? Because they see patients who cannot be cured more often and so make more money.

Actually that is pretty interesting. It seems like a fairly easy treatment to administer. Most major cities in the US have a hyperbaric chambers so if this research gets approved for mainstream people should have access. I would think it would be fairly low cost as well.

*sighs*

I've heard this sort of misinformation so often and I really don't know why people repeat it. It just is not true.

Scientists, Doctors, Surgeons have dedicated their lives to finding cures for at the time incurable diseases. Most of us are alive today because of that.

Diseases cured/wiped out by medicine:
• Smallpox
• Polio
• Measles
• Yellow fever
• Malaria
• Typhoid fever
• Whooping cough
• Pneumococcal disease
• Tuberculosis (TB)
• Tetanus
• Diphtheria
• Chickenpox/shingles
• Rabies

Other major medical breakthroughs

I think people who say that may have confused the motivations of most doctors and scientists with that of the larger pharmaceutical companies. Most in the medical field work tirelessly to treat and cure the sick and injured. Unless, of course, they are heavily invested in bigPharma [:D]

This is very interesting. It is encouraging to read positive information regarding something that is still often dismissed by some medical professionals. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over 20 years ago. I'd say misdiagnosed, as I actually have a connective tissue disease that nearly made me go blind and almost destroyed my kidneys, but I still have the same tender points that are the basic diagnostic criteria for Fibromyalgia. Anything that helps people to live a higher quality of life, is awesome to read about.

MariaB -> RE: fibromyalgia treatment (is there hope?) (1/21/2016 3:51:33 AM)

I regularly use my local hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber and its free of charge, though they do like people to contribute if they can. Its mainly used for people with nervous system disorders such as PD and MS. I believe FM is a nervous system disorder? Its also used for diabetics with leg sores, deep wound injuries, stroke victims and cluster headaches.

Its not a recognized medicine but then living a top a southern French mountain is not a recognized medicine either and I absolutely know that I do amazingly well when living at high altitude.
There have been some amazing recent discoveries around PD and MS which points to HOTC being beneficial. Unfortunately our doctors here still see it as voodoo medicine.

DesFIP -> RE: fibromyalgia treatment (is there hope?) (1/21/2016 8:17:23 AM)

Here the chambers are usually in burn units.

And that nonsense about doctors not wanting to cure patients? Bull.

I assume you haven't popped into a hospital lately: my local one (and I can't imagine it's unusual at all) is definitely full to bursting with pneumococcal disease. A child who died from it last week has been making big press here in the UK.

TB now totally untreatable in large parts of the world.

And as for malaria...ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????
http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs094/en/

Cliffs: According to the latest WHO estimates, released in September 2015, there were 214 million cases of malaria in 2015 and 438 000 deaths.

meaningfulness -> RE: fibromyalgia treatment (is there hope?) (2/1/2016 4:03:22 AM)

New trials are ongoing to find new treatments. Some are initially promising but when conducted large scale from small scale the results are no longer viable and so the testing stops and potential new treatment ceases. Stem cell and Gene Theraphy help some but not the majority for instance. Many Physicians and Surgeons seek to help patients but some have no such interest and simply just go through the motions and follow the protocols in existences with reluctance to change their own practices. Bad apples in every basket.
