Personally, if we are going to discuss regiments in the Royal Army, would it not be best to discuss those with a better claim to fame than some regiment that has some connection to Yorkshire? A district more renowned for its strange choice in what is and is not edible.

Perhaps the 24th Foot, clearly a regiment composed primarily of those of good and sacred blood (Welsh) and with the good grace of being an infantry unit (aka a unit that makes no claim to be 'mounted' since cavalry had a nasty habit of walking horse as much as they rode the animals) and with no idea of what it means to be outnumbered (vastly outnumbered was an understatement on at least one occasion.)

A regiment where even the biggest slacker (aka gold brick) had enough of a set of balls to earn a Victoria Cross (okay, maybe, just maybe, the idea of his possible death at the hands of a few thousand pissed off Zulus may have had something to do with it.)

So, if you are going to entertain us with tales of Royal Army units of merit, at least pick one that had a bit of style.

You fucking British Army Bastards!

Some say the devil is dead, the devil is dead, the devil is dead
Some say the devil is dead, and buried in Killarney
More say he rose again, more say he rose again
More say he rose again and joined the British Army

Feed the pigs and milk the cow, and milk the cow, and milk the cow
Feed the pigs and milk the cow, early in the morning
Cock your leg, oh Paddy dear, Paddy dear I'm over here
Cock your leg, oh Paddy dear, it's time to stop your yawning

Some say the devil is dead, the devil is dead, the devil is dead
Some say the devil is dead, and buried in Killarney
More say he rose again, more say he rose again
More say he rose again and joined the British Army

Katie she is tall and thin, she's tall and thin, and tall and thin
Katie she is tall and thin, and like her drops of brandy
Drinks it in the bed each night, drinks it in the bed each night
Drinks it in the bed each night, it makes her nice and randy

Some say the devil is dead, the devil is dead, the devil is dead
Some say the devil is dead, and buried in Killarney
More say he rose again, more say he rose again
More say he rose again and joined the British Army

The wife she has the hairy thing, a hairy thing, a hairy thing
The wife she has the hairy thing, she showed it to me on Sunday
She bought it in the furrier's shop, bought it in the furrier's shop
She bought it in the furriers's shop, it's going back on Monday

Some say the devil is dead, the devil is dead, the devil is dead
Some say the devil is dead, and buried in Killarney
More say he rose again, more say he rose again
More say he rose again and joined the British Army

My one's over six feet tall, six feet tall, six feet tall
My one's over six feet tall, she likes the sugar candy
Goes to bed at six o'clock, goes to bed at six o'clock
Goes to bed at six o'clock, she's lazy, fat and dandy

Some say the devil is dead, the devil is dead, the devil is dead
Some say the devil is dead, and buried in Killarney
More say he rose again, more say he rose again
More say he rose again and joined the British Army

Strewth I hate it when people pretend to be British, or Irish, when they aren't either. It sticks out a frigging mile, every bloody time. And it is never, ever funny.

The UK does not have a Royal Army it has a Regular Army. The term British Army is a generalist. It has a Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The Army has some Royal Regiments and Corps. The Green Howards wet a well led and famous county Regiment. 3 five star generals came from the single Battalion Regiment in 20 years.

By the way the 19th Foot took part in the campaign in the Carolinas and won all four battles it fought. It then went to Jamaica and then Ceylon. So it missed the French revolutionary and later peninsula and war of 1812-14. It fought at Minded in the early 1700s as part of 6000 troops that defeated 30.000 French.

Yorkshire is nowadays three separate counties not a district. The cuisine is the same as answered else in the UK with slight variations. It is a very pleasant part of the UK and has rivers, coast, dales, wolds and moors. It has sizable cities like Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and small market towns, it is mostly rural. Its famous city of York (aberacium) is were the only Briton to be a Roman Empower was born. Constantine whom a city was named after and an obscure Jewish sect was turned into a state religion called Christianity. A intact Roman wall still surrounds the old Roman city. That is today's city center. All its attractions are within 15 minutes walk of any hotel or guest house. You can take boat rides and visit the cathedral and Castle and so much more the battlefield of Stamford Bridge is a short drive just outside the city. It is a military garrison city. Apart from the Green Howards other now defunct regiments were raised in the county. The King's own Yorkshire light Infantry, the Duke of wellingtons Regiment, the Prince of Wales own Yorkshire Regiment. Those were the names at disbandment or merger. The latter three merged in 2006 to form the Yorkshire Regiment. Its second Battalion (green Howards) was disbanded in October 2014. There were 112 regiments each with 2 or 3 battalions utilities Caldwell reforms of 1881. In 1958 large scale mergers occurred. The Infantry were placed into 17 recruitment brigades with a training depot. For each. In 1968 further mergers occurred and the 17 brigades became 6 recruiting divisions with their own depots. Guards, Scottish, Kings, Queen's, Light, Prince of Wales, the parachute Regiment and gurkhas retained brigades. All Infantry are trained the same except the guards, paras and gurkhas. 26 weeks for line Infantry, 28 weeks for guards, 30 weeks for paras and 39 weeks for gurkhas. All British Infantry are elite and famous, they each have fought in hundreds of battles and won over 90% of those battles. No Army on earth has won every war it fought but the British have the most victories of any Army be it ancient or modern. The British formed and trained over two thirds of the world's Armies. Even the continental Army was formed from s nucleus of soldiers trained as militias who fought alongside the redcoats in France and Indian war. It is one of only 5 commonwealth Armies who's soldiers train the officers in battle tactics.

Well, we're getting closer. Dude is now addressing himself as a queen and quoting lyrics from the Village People. I think we're about to have a breakthrough on his repressed desires for men.

Go for it, Kevin! You can do it!

Is that what they are saying? I decided to break my rule and just put them all on hide. I gotta tell you, it really shortened up this thread.

I realize that this thread is about a disagreement between rival factions who had held positions of responsibility be they voluntary are salaried concerning the message boards on this website. I do not wish to detract from that but just want to contribute to a certain number of messages.
At the time of the Zulu War the 24th foot were then titled the 24th (South Warwickshire Regiment of Foot.) It was not a Welsh regiment though it had many Welsh, Irish and English in its ranks. It did have its regimental depot in Brecon in South Wales. It became the 24th foot South Wales Borderers only after the Cardwell reforms of 1881. Later still it merged and became part of the Royal Regiment of Wales. Today having merged with the 23rd Foot the Royal Welch Fusiliers (old traditional spelling) and is now The Royal Welsh.

Below are some very interesting and entertaining videos about regiments and traditions in the Regular Army, referred to as the British Army though that has never been its official title.

Blessings be upon you all! God loves a sinner and my you are certainly all sinners! I will say mass for you all in the hope that you turn from evil and his Abominations. There is no Truth in Drama and no Drama in Truth!

keepquite -> RE: Truth and Drama (1/19/2016 6:38:52 AM)

So who was at fault then you for being a complete Bitch are he for being a complete Bastard? Never marry until you are absolutely sure you are both suited in every way. It is a sacred partnership not a short term contract. Marriage is also not just about sex but many orther necessary and fulfilling things.

LadyPact -> RE: Truth and Drama (1/19/2016 6:41:26 AM)

So, when you say mass, are you able to get the difference between "or" and "are" correct? You'd think they'd teach that in seminary.

Lucylastic -> RE: Truth and Drama (1/19/2016 6:50:22 AM)

keepquite, I suggest you make your own sock topic so you can talk to yourself happily all day, Ill check in on you and laugh at your atrocious bloody English and general all around spunkbubbleness.
