I was in Walmart today (please note, it was against my will AND better judgement) to pick up a few things (and target does not sell tobacco products) and to pick up niece's fiance's meds. Now, of course I had to pick the time immediately after the pharmacy reopened after lunch, so the line was extremely long, even with three pharmacy cashiers. Then SHE got to the window. She is a late 20 something, tight shirt, painted on jeans, stiletto heels (a 2 dollar hooker wouldnt wear these things) and a coat with some bizarre fake purple fur and pink and purple hair. Unfortunately, I was also next in line. Now, one of her prescriptions was not ready and she was told she would have to wait another 10 minutes (turned out it was her birth control, only because she went to level ten yelling mode and everyone in the freaking store was informed it was her birth control) Anyway, this woman was yelling, cussing, and generally giving foul mouthed super bitches a really bad name. It was so bad that the woman on the second register got involved. After about 10 minutes, long frustrating minutes (the option to leave and come back was not available, the med I was picking up was Chris's pain med) I made the off handed comment: "Women should be seen and not heard." in a very sarcastic tone I might add. Now, the people in my immediate vicinity heard the statement, and a few men actually voiced agreement (pointing to the bitch making the fuss) by which they created problems for themselves (wives, girlfriends etc) so now there were at least three heated arguments in the line to pick up medications. Now, at this point, I have to admit that I was finding a bit of entertainment in what I had started by a sarcastic remark, and was quite content to enjoy the chaos that was slowly building, except.... There was a tap on my shoulder and I turned to look the worst possible person in the eye that could possibly have been standing in line behind me. Sister Elizabeth, Catholic nun, order of St. Benedict, and a long time friend of my mom and she had reinforcements (isnt there some rule against nuns traveling in packs?) Her question was simple, "what would your mother say to you saying that?" My answer, "Sister, my mother, was a good, god fearing woman who knew how to keep a civil tone even when she was pissed off, and in this particular case, she would agree only in that SOME women should be seen and not heard." Surprisingly enough, she actually agreed. By this time, the yelling individual had gotten her perscriptions, and had been asked by the pharmacy manager to take her business elsewhere in the future, at least four couples were not speaking to each other, and I finished my walmart excursion and left. Now, ladies, before you rake me over the coals, I do not preach that my statement is, indeed the way things should be, in fact I value a woman's honest opinion. I can say that there are more than a few men who should also be seen and not heard, a couple happen to be in the news a lot lately. However, you must at least agree in some part, that there are some women that should just keep their mouths shut, and if necessary, a case of duck tape should be used to insure that speech is completely impossible.
