That stretches the general notion of what a religion is usually taken to be, I'd have thought.

Remember 'religion' can be theist, nontheist or atheist.

Atheists have been led to believe they have some kind of exemption and nothing could be further from the truth when the elements of 'what is religion' are carefully examined.

RO, that's something I just don't buy. At the same time, it's not an issue I feel I have enough investment in to argue.

There's an argument - one that I find plausible, too - that something about the religious sensibility remains in many of even the most ostensibly scientific and rationalist sorts of outlooks but, again - that's not something I want to get into in this thread, if at all.

I shall leave you good people to carry on the discussion as you'd like. :-)

The definition of "religion" is:

  • the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.
  • a particular system of faith and worship.
  • a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.

Maybe, maybe, under the third definition, but most associate religion with the belief in one or more gods.

    Atheism is defined as:
  • disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.
