No matter what desktop or laptop system you're on, you have a hosts file, which is the FIRST place that your system looks to in order to resolve host names into IP addresses. Many Internet domains are better off not ever going to, such as doubleclick.com and realtracker.com and trafficholder.com. In fact, there are literally THOUSANDS of domains you probably don't really want to visit - but - you can't help it if the web page you visit has hidden links to these sites. What's a person to do? The SIMPLEST solution is to add to your HOSTS file all the sites you don't want to visit. So, for example, if you don't ever want to visit ad.looktraffic.com, you simply add this line to your HOSTS file: 127.0.0.1 ad.looktraffic.com Where the 127.0.0.1 merely means your local host (which is your own machine). There are plenty of well vetted hosts file on the Internet for you to start with, but probably the best is the MVP HOSTS file. Instructions on installing this excellent hosts file are located here: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm There are other hosts files on the net such as: http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ http://www.malwaredomainlist.com/ http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php
