It won't. You will have days off dialysis and can work round it. A transplant will help but there is only a minority of donors available. Energy levels and pain can restrict activity but exercise can help.

Avoiding inactive and exercising frequently slows down and can in some cases arrest kidney disease. I types into Google, kidney disease and and alternative Lifestyle activities. A number of websites on the topic came up. People in wheel chairs can engage in the lifestyle. Focus on died, exercise and interesting things like the lifestyle.

There was a regular poster by the name of DomKen who was on dialysis. Not sure if he is still around but you might try searching some of his posts. I know he had commented about dealing with dialysis on some threads.

As someone with ever increasing health problems, I commend you on trying to find out how these issues will impact your future. As a diabetic who has suffered one instant of kidney failure (thank God it self corrected).

Now, having said that, if you know you will eventually need a transplant. If there is a reason that will keep you off the list, that doesn't mean your only option is dialysis. Directed donations supersede the list. Since you know for certain this eventuality, it would be wise to ask family members and friends if they would be willing donors and then be tested to see if they are a match.

In the meantime remember, we only pass through this life, so live it on your terms and make the best of your life everyday.

Already done. Three family members agreed - and three friends as well. The 3 friends were a pleasant surprise. Good to know my friends are real friends. Still a bit worried. Even with a transplant, there is a 5% mortality within one year after the transplant.

Also, I learned about the absolute worst medical euphemism. "Active Medical Management" Some people, particularly the old and infirm, are too weak for dialysis, let alone a transplant. But A.M.M. really means 'keep you comfortable until you die".

Statistics are nothing to worry about. You just do your own thing and don't worry about those numbers. Gary was given 3-5 years when he got his lung transplant. Average lifespan after a single lung transplant is 4.6 years. Twenty percent didn't make it through the first year. He had his transplant 14 years 8 months ago. We have had over 10 years together even though he told me he only had a year to live. He's gotten to see many of his grandkids grow up and graduate from high school and college. Five years after his transplant he got to hold his youngest grandchild when she was just hours old.

Good luck. Be optimistic. You have family and friends who love you. That is such a precious gift.

Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

I have severe form of CFS (it has a few names) so I am very limited by that and that is life and I am happy talking about it on these sites.. it only explains away my lack of punctuation some of the time, my typing is my typing ;)

However, sometimes people on eg sites/real life view you as; subhuwman, broken, damaged, less than whole, incomplete etc if you have a disability or health issues..l And it can be hard not get irked some of the time with people of that mindset. Anyone else on here have that problem?

I will not be picking anyone up soon, perhaps years, decades, epochs, perhaps never. they can go on top and I certainly wont be lumberjacking and construction a saint Andrews cross (what do they call them in America etc and even England?)

Anyhow you actually adapt, sooner or later. And I am fine with her on top most times as she is (when I have a she) But I wont be tooling up my bedroom with all manner of ingenious devious contraptions and so on

You are subhuman when you cross certain lines and commit certain crimes. Until then you are fine.

Criminals, I mean REAL criminals are animals. What makes us Men is that we recognized others, not as prey. The animals do not have that sense in their brain, and I do not mean sense as in touch or smell, I mean it the other way. We want to have friends, trade with each other, people who want to fuck that up just ain't with it.

Stupit assholes are fucking it up.

If anyone fucks with you, fuck back.

Friend of mine has polycystic kidneys. About the size of footballs he says but I think that may be a slight exaggeration. But they are definitely enlarged according to the docs. He is in his late 40s and his renal function is down to 11 % so it is time for them to install the pipes. That happens in a couple of days actually.

He has been hearing to watch his protein intake, so you might want to watch how much eat you eat. You have to eat some meat, but less of it. So go for quality. You gonna give your kidneys (or that machine) a workout make it worth it.

Mixed nuts might be good. Like Planter's "less than 50 % peanuts" mixed nuts. Whatever brand you buy make sure on the back it does not say hydrogenated anywhere or olestra. That shit will make you much sicker much quicker.

You like salads ? You can get really creative with them. Even add meat. I used to eat salads with a fried chicken breast on top, thrown on there so it melts the cheese and it kind sticks a bit. You just cut it with your knife and you have a piece of chicken, some lettuce, onion, tomato and some of that pizza cheese. You are getting protein there, but not too much of it.

If the dialysis puts your numbers right you can probably eat more of that stuff. When they plug you in they should have your numbers right away, and can determine how often you need to come in. My friend's Mother went four times a week and the web says three times a week.

I think the web will back me up about limiting protein when living with this condition but I am not a doctor at all. I have dine a shit ton of research but that really doesn't mean much. But diet is the key to everything because you are what you eat. You were born what, 8 or 9 pounds ? Where did the rest of it come from ?

I have called upon supposed scholars about this, correlation between heredity and mineral/nutrient requirements and they are like "Duh". And a doctor made up a drug for Black people tailored to their particular form on hypertension and high cholesterol, just a combination of two drugs, and they tore into him for being racist.

He saw that the Black patients were getting these two drugs and wanted to make it easier by just combining them into one pill. That's racist.

Now I think of it, my buddy told me he ate some beans and got sick. Not proven the cause but... But he ate keilbasa not long ago and did not get sick. Correlation is not always causation. But the fact remains that someone else ate some of those beans and did not get sick. Hmm, he gave me some dried beans a while back, maybe I should throw them out.

Anyway, just use the right words in Google and there is all kinds of information out there.

I was on dialysis hemodialysis for 6 months and went on Peritoneal dialysis for 16 months before I got the call for my transplant.
With hemodialysis, you also have to watch fluid intake... You can do almost everything as normal, but for me, I had issues with thanking my shirts off because of the tubes and stuff especially after the procedure for the Theter... Because I had along tube sticking out of my abdomen and the pipes coming out of my upper chest
