Brindle -> Advice on insurance needed? (12/1/2004 8:41:27 AM)
Dear all
My partner (a fellow Domina) and I are thinking of doing occasional pro sessions from a freinds house who has a wonderful private play space - but we are concerned to make sure that we are operating withing the law as much as possible and that we have health/safety issues covered, including any possible need for insurance. As in - do we need any? We would be effectively working from someone's home.
I know I sound totally green on this - and it's cos I am [:)] - but any help would be much appreciated. We are UK based.
regards Ms B

I'm not in the UK so I don't know if this applies, but homeowners insurance will cover liability up to $100,000. You can purchase a general liability policy for additional coverage which is a good idea for a small amount. Today's lawsuit payouts are more than $100k. When you apply for the additional coverage, just tell them you are operating a home-based business.[;)]

It's illegal for 2 ladies to work from the same place, so, no you wouldn't be able to get insurance.
Even if you worked at different times, I doubt any insurance company would touch you due to the nature of the beast [:(]

personal liability insurance, costs you about a couple hundred bucks a year for 1 to 2mil coverage and protects you from lawsuits and the like. One of the best investments you can make and can be used as an umbrella policy.

Im not sure on the UK laws but in both the US and the West Indies I have My BDSM Public Dungeons set up as a Adult Little Dinner Theatres and Insure both as such and gaining the membership to sign waivers to the privvy. You will not have any issue with insurance companys signing policys for such and the building will need to have in place any thing that a regular business would need such as proper fire protections emergancy doors proper handling of items and food stuffs. Get a regulatory book on how restaurants are licenced by your regulartory commissions and contact the health depts in your area to ask how and who inspects a business and call your fire depts and ask for a check list of what a business needs in place in order to pass inspections for starters. Contact the Internatioal Hotel and Resteraunt Association and see what rules they follow in opening up their businesses in your area. Do the same for the live theatres in your area as well and then take a package of the business you have put together to your insurance agent and explain what it is that you will be doing to get a realistic idea of the insurance involved. Be sure you have in your plan that you will be getting members or patrons to sign waivers for use so this covers any comp coverage. Also check into the laws in your community to see if having such a business is allowed by either the Goverment, State, County or City of your residence and if there are children in the home also what the law states for such things because in most situations home dungeons that are opened for public use become Adult regulated hence no children can be around or involved in the place of business so to speak, so this might be the isssue you most need to address as well. I did mention that you would have to licence this endevor and business dident I? JMO
