BREAKING NEWS
The $10 bill will feature five women — on the back (thanks, "Hamilton"). Harriet Tubman will be on the front of the $20.
Wednesday, April 20, 2016 12:42 PM EDT
The Treasury Department will announce on Wednesday afternoon that Harriet Tubman, an African-American who ferried thousands of slaves to freedom, will replace the slaveholding Andrew Jackson on the center of a new $20 note, according to a Treasury official, while newly popular Alexander Hamilton will remain on the face of the $10 bill.
Other depictions of women and civil rights leaders will also be part of new currency designs.

More politically correct bullshit and a waste of several million taxpayer dollars before they re through, studies, new anti counterfeit measures, new printing costs, completely unnecessary waste just for the sake of change. This sort of thing is why the goddamn government has its priorities wrong and US trillions in debt!

The redesigns, from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, would be announced in 2020 in time for the centennial of woman’s suffrage and the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. None of the bills, including a new $5 note, would reach circulation until the next decade.

It was unclear whether details of the unexpectedly sweeping changes would mollify some women’s groups, who had excoriated Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew for reneging on his 10-month-old commitment to put a woman on the face of the $10 bill, which is the one currently in line for an anti-counterfeiting makeover.

I'm delighted about Tubman, a fine choice on many levels.

But I wish that we'd stop tinkering with U.S. currency, which is now an unfortunate hybrid between the beautiful old engraved notes and modern, counterfeit-foiling bills. If we're gonna redesign, let's really do it--thoughtfully, boldly, and comprehensively.

Hamilton had some good points on how to arrange the new US economy early but being a banker and starting the bank of NY and not learning from Smith's 'An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,' was not the father of private banking. He instead favored the USB (a national central bank) which was to lend to the Fed, govt. and serve the favored elites.

This was one of Jefferson's biggest quarrels with Hamilton particularly how it also fostered the federal govt's central powers.

Jackson was a butcher and slave owning whore who never made a dime with real work. But he was for the little guy and against the banking elites...which they were.

They could get rid of both in my mind and put women on both the ten and the twenty.

Jackson never did any work.
Why would the new people both have to be women?
Does being a woman automatically qualify them?
If they put Hillary's picture on a bill it should be the $3 bill.

Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory," never did any work? The guy, that when he was 13 (a military courier), was captured by the British, and treated not well at all? Won the Battle of New Orleans with less than 80 American deaths.

I realize that he pretty much founded the Democratic Party, but I think his military service was more distinguished than yours, Bama.

Money making plantation owner, lawyer, politician, military leader. . . yeah, I think he worked.

Cool backstory about the aptness of Harriet Tubman for the twenty:

Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory," never did any work?

You have that right...The only thing that he ever made money at was feeding at the public trough and living off the labor of slaves. He tried to be a lawyer but was singularly unsuccessful.

Money making plantation owner,

Living off the labor of slaves[8|]

lawyer,

Never made any money at it as he damn near illiterate.

politician,

Kinda like ted kennedy?

military leader

Murdering piece of shit.

. . . yeah, I think he worked.

Opinions vary.

I think this is wonderful.
I'm not mad at the waste of tax money.
They have been wasting, mis-managing, and throwing away my tax money for years.
I am not quibbling over this, and ignoring the other ways my tax money
is squandered.

I dont see all the fuss myself Marini, not the woman part or the fact that Harriet is a black woman. Personally I think its an ideal fit, but then Ive only lived with the queen being on my currency. But there are a lot of pissed of people making lots of noise about it.
Its another smoke screen as far as Im concerned.
