I honestly don't care about the bathroom issue. I've been to CBGB were it was better to pee in the alley than the bathroom.

But, here's a sobering thought - Caitlyn Jenner's birth certificate says female.....but she's still got a winkie.......

Yep. God, it's the 21st century, now. It can't be that terrifying a leap into radical new territory.

in star trek there are only bathrooms and no one cares if you stand sit or other you go and get back to work.
when i was first deployed to Afghanistan the remote bases only had 1 bathroom trailer, the urinals were disabled and none of us cared what you did in the stall as long as you washed your hands. i feel that there should just restrooms no pink or blue just yellow no urinals and for the comfort of users all patrons should sit to pee or if you sprinkle when you tinkle be sweet and wipe the seat

A perfectly sensible solution.

Target had them before puting in their open restroom policy.

I have been saying for about a year that there should be "Men", "Ladies", and "Neutral" (I vacillate on the name of the third one because of all the PC shit heads, just waiting to pounce).

Of course, a friend of mine (a pre-op transgender who will never be post-op) says that if going into a men's room freaks someone out, so much, they have other issues to worry about than where to pee.

Perhaps a temporary solution would be to allow state and local governments to decide this issue for a period of time to see if issues arise...but in the mean time... make mandatory a requirement that if transgenders are barred then separate, convenient, adequate, facilities be provided.

A compromise to be sure but better than nothing.

Well the DOJ has said it is against federal law to do what NC has done
Seems NC doesnt care according to some places.

Lucy I am on the side of the trans community on this issue. But just because the DOJ has made a ruling does not mean it will stand... There is a legal process to go through and the outcomes is far from assured.

I equate the gay and trans communities fight for rights with the African American's continued fight for equality. We can see that protests and government mandates do little to force the changing of minds... As an example all the civil rights protests of the 50's and 60's did change law but reinforced some racists attitudes. Perhaps there is a better way then to force people to accept what they are not ready to do. That is why I think maybe compromise is needed here and in the long run may work better.

These initiatives in India and Thailand demonstrate a far more progressive attitude to TGs than displayed in many Western countries.

"With an estimated 15 million transgender men and women in the world, according to the United Nations, the BBC is taking a look at how some are are breaking social barriers in the workplace and changing the world around them.
In the Indian state of Maharashtra, Matthew Wheeler and Priti Gupta spend time at a unique police checkpost.
And in Thailand's capital Bangkok, Hoang Nguyen visits a model agency with a difference
."

It seems that the First World has a lot to learn from the Third World in some matters.

I dont see SCOTUS either with a full panel or as 8 allowing destroying the federal civil rights act
At least with no con advantage

The U.S. Department of Justice has informed Gov. Pat McCrory (R) that North Carolina’s anti-transgender law, HB2, violates the federal Civil Rights Act. He has until Monday to provide assurances “that the State will not comply with or implement HB2.”
The letter sent to McCrory Wednesday explains that HB2, which among other things bans the use of restrooms by transgender people in accordance with their gender identities in all public schools and state buildings, violates both Title VII and Title IX. They protect against discrimination on the basis of sex in employment and education, respectively.
“Access to sex-segregated restrooms and other workplace facilities consistent with gender identity is a term, condition or privilege of employment,” the letter asserts. “Denying such access to transgender individuals, whose gender identity is different from the gender assigned at birth, while affording it to similarly situated non-transgender employees, violates Title VII.”
The letter also explains that because of the similar Title IX violations, North Carolina is at risk of losing its $861 million in federal funding for its schools.
If McCrory does not provide confirmation that HB2 will not be enforced, the Department of Justice could then begin taking actions against the state to overturn it. The Department of Education could follow suit by exercising its leverage over the state’s funding.
As of Tuesday, McCrory was still claiming that the law was not discriminatory. “This had to do with privacy,” he reiterated.

Well lets hope the disadvantages of this law bring some sense... but if not I believe this issue will eventually... in a few years be decided by the courts. But the point i am trying to make is how attitudes can be changed and how best to have a positive outcome.

look at any attitude and ask how they can be changed.
Ignorance is rampant, but you have to admit first that you might not always have it right.
I often tell people dont believe everything you think.
that came about because of personal experience, that I actually took to heart.

But willful ignorance needs education.

Someone needs to tell the high muck-a-mucks in NC that lesbians use women's rest rooms and watch their heads explode.
