ORIGINAL: tweakabelle For years now, the GOP has regarded any tax hikes as anathema, and resisted them. They have repeatedly opposed increasing tax rates for the very rich, instead introducing lower tax rates for the wealthy. They have been so strident in their opposition to any increase in any tax that opposition to higher taxes for anyone has become a core value for conservatives (or at least that is what the GOP told us to justify their refusal to contemplate any increases in taxes). I believe that all or almost all GOP reps in Congress and the Senate have signed pledges not to increase taxers. And now the GOP presumptive nominee, one D Trump aka The Mop has come out and stated his intention to increase taxes on the wealthy. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-trump-idUSKCN0XZ0I3 Which kind of leaves all those conservatives who have opposed taxes hikes hook line and sinker so loudly and for so long in a bit of bind. Do they endorse The Mop's position - higher taxes for the wealthy - or do they repudiate the GOP presumptive nominee? It seems to me that if they have principles, then they have no choice but to repudiate Trump's position. So will we see a parade of conservatives staying strong for their core principles or will we see a parade of conservative compromising their principles in an effort to get their guy into the White House? Trump, should he be elected will accomplish much more than you expect. Regarding tweak's vitriol. Conservatives generally don't like taxes. We don't like gun control, we don't like deficits. Many don't like abortion. So one can be true to one's principles and still support trump. Very rarely does one get everything one wishes in a candidate. As far as I'm concerned - he's not Hillary, and doesn't have the last name of Clinton. I'm happy as a lark. Please look up the meaning of the word 'vitriol'. It is perfectly clear from the way you have used it in your post that you don't know what it means. It is a fact that so-called conservatives in Congress have made it a non-negotiable point that there be no tax increases whatsoever. It is a fact that almost all, if not all, the GOP Caucus has signed Norquist's 'no tax increase' pledge. It is a fact that so-called conservatives such as you have been opposing any increase in taxes on these boards for years now. This is a central plank of GOP policy. Now along comes Trump and declares he's going to raise taxes on the wealthy. If you have any principles (which judging from the malicious crap you post elsewhere, is unlikely) you would either repudiate Trump or be forced, by supporting Trump, to repudiate your principles. I see you decline to do either. Obvious conclusion : You have no principles vit·ri·ol·ic ˌvitrēˈälik/ adjective filled with bitter criticism or malice. "vitriolic attacks on the politicians" synonyms: acrimonious, rancorous, bitter, caustic, mordant, acerbic, trenchant, virulent, spiteful, savage, venomous, poisonous, malicious, splenetic; More Feedback I'd have to say that pretty much describes you. If you don't see that, I'm afraid you have a big blind spot. Heck, when I'm being vitriolic, at least I know it and make a decision to do so.
