This is amazing. Go Holland!

Gist of the article is, woman was sexually abused, and could not get over her PTSD, and chose to be euthanised. It was approved and went through.

For me, this is good news.

I look forward to the day where, freedom includes having the free choice to choose to live or die.

Because all of us never had that choice right? Parents made that choice on our behalf?

Living is not a choice. It just happens to you.

This world really don't need to deal with people who are too weak minded to survive in this world. And they could be happier dead.

Why are we stopping and preventing them from dying and keep them in their own mental anguish?

There will be many people who will embrace, treasure and love life, DESPITE making it legal to choose whether to live or die. We don't have to worry about the masses of people who may choose death.

What ya think?

Could just drug them up with anti-depressants and have them go shoot up a school instead of just shooting themself in the garage or whatever.

Did you read the article? It says that many people are actually joyful facing their death. And feel they are going to a happier place?

Of course those who believe they are neither happy or sad after death, don't have to choose to die. And can choose to stay in this world.

It's just choosing what makes you happy.

As long as she didn't physically harm anyone else with her suicide there's zero reason the government should have stepped in to determine whether or not her life was hers for the taking.

Yes, but with assisted suicide being made legal solely by choice of the person. The person who wish to die, can die in a non-painful way and die in comfort. Currently in the US, they only allow assisted suicide for terminal ill people. In my country, they only allow assisted suicide for brain dead people. Holland allows it for people who feels that they don't have the mental capacity to deal with emotional pain, which is good, because the alternative is always like fucking up that person on drugs for the rest of that person life. And I think that's just more fucked up.

Compared to the rest of the world, where it's not allowed. And then, you have people jumping off buildings, throwing themselves infront of cars, basically choosing messy painful ways.

In theory, but in practice it can be difficult getting the plug pulled on anybody if a politician wants to use them as a PR stunt to endear himself to the religious right.

The assisting part is the sticky part, as Greta said. While I do NOT agree with her "weak" statement. in the slightest, having an assistant help you die has been a long time issue, Think Jack Kvorkian.

I would caution against celebration. There was no discussion in the news report about the competency of this mentally ill person to make an informed decision. Red flag there.

I will have to boldly disagree. That's one of the saddest things I've ever heard of.
I certainly wouldnt want to be the person assisting in that HOT seat.
This is not acceptable.
People do get better and spirituality gives people hope. It does exist.

That is because that issue is handled in the procedures laid out in the law. The fact that it is being allowed to go ahead means that the person was judged competent.
