FR

If you're sort of educated, as I am, and you see a photo on a profile of a femdom who looks sophisticated and stuff ... *God* does the fantasy get shattered when you start to read her profile and she writes like a cretin. It's *so* disappointing. Hey well. I imagine femsubs have their equivalent experiences.

Yes it is disappointing. Unfortunately, its more the norm than the exception.

Likewise. Dismal, isn't it?

Actually, methinks the so-called "ellipsis" is the mark (or set of marks) that indicate a missing set of letters or words; so, technically, there is only a single ellipsis (and not five ellipses).

Now, whether or not that single ellipsis contains five "periods" or five "full stops" (aka "dots"), is a matter of Pondian English style, as is where or whether to place a space or spaces before or after the ellipsis; but I digress...

PS: There are always huge discussions in the English Usenet newsgroups that I frequent daily, regarding the space BEFORE the ellipsis

I have the person who started the thread on ignore, I am pretty sure there is a good reason for it...

You generally exercise extremely good judgement, so, I will follow suit so as to spare myself the future exorcism.

I seem to recall a bunch of spam threads, usually when in doubt check the profile and then "view forum posts"

Btw due to recent events, travel plans are a bit fluid, I'll sent you a text message, but would be great to get together when I'm on your side of the pond, if it's not too inconvenient

DesFIP -> RE: People who can't spell.... (6/4/2016 12:01:05 PM)

The Man has a master's in engineering plus a MBA from Wharton, earned together.

But his spelling and grammar are not at that level. So I proof read stuff for him frequently.

My eldest had a spelling exemption in school, and has her Mensa card. My mother in law used to run one of the top horse breeding operations on the East Coast and is dyslexic.

There's no way to announce that an inability to spell means a person is of low intelligence.

My response is to the Original Poster and that's it. :)

I've always considered an inability to spell being an indication of an inability to handle detail.

Sorry WaywardSoul :) That post was meant to be in response to TNDommeK's question to me. :)

Don't you consider dyslexia? or do you believe dyslexics can't handle detail?

    Crazy isn't it!
When Steve and me got to know each other on here, his spelling was questionable, but when I spoke with him on the phone, there was no doubt about his intelligence. He's a nuclear physicist so his attention to detail is way ahead of mine. This is a man who's linguistic skills often have me stopping him mid sentence because I don't understand some of the words he's using.

There is one thing I can do better than him and that's spell. We both have dyslexia, mine is auditory, his is surface dyslexia but its stopped neither of us going to university or having good careers. Interestingly, we are extroverts who both practice extreme sports to get our thrills and when it comes to BDSM, we have done some shockingly naughty things. [:)]

Research has found that spelling and grammar pedants tend to be introverts. Eysenck’s theory was that extroverts have just a slightly lower basic rate of arousal. The effect is that they need to work a little harder to get themselves up to the level others find normal and pleasant without doing anything. Hence the need for company, seeking out novel experiences and risks. Conversely, highly introverted individuals find themselves overstimulated by things others might find merely pleasantly exciting or engaging. A spelling mistake is like a stone in their shoe.

DesFIP -> RE: People who can't spell.... (6/5/2016 7:52:25 AM)

Nice to see you venture back here.

That works for me, I'm an old English pedant. I spell well and have excellent grammar. And I'm an introvert.

But my daughter is also an introvert and as I said, her spelling is terrible. Which is why it's important to use really good spell check programs. I find the Apple one on my tablet is far superior to the Microsoft on the laptop.

    Thanks

Spell check is great providing you're not word blind. The worst one for him is autocorrect text.

WhoreMods -> RE: People who can't spell.... (6/5/2016 12:13:21 PM)

Spellcheckers are crap (and occasionally useless), but I'll take those over grammar checkers any day. [:'(]

I would hope that the OP and DesFIP were complaining about people who don't put even the most minimal effort into writing a profile that they hope might get them laid, rather than having a go at dyslexics? Complaints about wilful ignorance and laziness seem a bit more acceptable than attacking people who have issues with pattern recognition, after all.

Good catch. Sometimes less is more.

    Thank you.

    Clarity is found in minimalism.

I believe you misread me. I'm one of those who contradicted the op.

    Subgeneral2 -> RE: People who can't spell.... (6/17/2016 2:56:35 PM)

I am seeing many profiles that start to sound the same, like they are being poorly written by a scammer. Not that the subject matter is poor, but the grammar is off. These profiles typically will be too good to be true. These profiles tend to utilize very young females with vast experience. There's a new one popping up every time I log in, which is too frequent. :\
In question right now is one that I suspect and falls into this category of iffy. http://www.collarspace.com/personals/v/2429036/details.htm
