It was invoked in the OP of the Florida shooting thread, which was the first I've heard of it. Didn't do any good.

Maybe if it was invoked more often, people would pay attention. Or maybe it was never an unwritten rule here at all until that particular OP claimed it was? These are deep waters, Watson...

Where I come from, the "72 hour" rule used to be about time for notification for next of kin and opportunity to make funeral arrangements.
