Okay, I finally broke down and watched 'Cloud Atlas.'

Short of a birth mark (even on a clone which should not have been possible) what the fuck is the link between all the damn time jumping scenes?

Hell I had a problem reading the book "Slaughter House 5" and watching the movie for the same damn reasons.

The movie starts with Tom Hanks telling a story to his grandkids, which evidently is the basis for the whole thing, but honestly after that I was lost.

Hell I watched it three times and was worse off than after the first time.

To get my mind back on even keel, I watched Deadpool.

My favorite scene in Deadpool is when Colossus is embarrassed at Angel Dust's boob hanging out, and tells her, to which she responds "that's so sweet" then promptly punches him in the balls. Goes to show that chivalry can get a guy hurt.

Now, to continue on the topic of Deadpool, since Morena Baccarin was in the movie, I feel that Nathan Fallon should have made an appearance as well.

My night of home movie viewing continued with "The Last Witch Hunter."

Good movie, but to be honest, Vin Diesel rarely does a bad movie, but then I kind of enjoy wanton destruction.

Anyway, back to Cloud Atlas.

Can someone tell me how Tom Hanks could tell a story about a bunch of people that was born before him and never met? These folks didnt even make it to the history books, although by the time that Tom Hanks character telling the story was born, there were no history books left.

Is it some sort of genetic memory he is telling?

I thought it was about reincarnation, myself.

We went to it, The Man kept falling asleep because it never grabbed us. We left halfway.

But according to his oldest, if you made it all the way through, it then made sense.

I'll accept that premise and freely admit that I'm incapable of following non-linear views of time. Cloud Atlas is to film as John Cage is to music.

I think this is the major hurdle for most people, because movies that move back and forth through time (and also have multiple story lines or repeat the same story from different viewpoints) are more difficult to mentally grasp at one viewing. But I believe it's because these movies are meant to challenge the viewer's mind, not just act as passive entertainment for the viewer.

Consider "Pulp Fiction." It also jumps back and forth, but I have never heard the same complaints about time jumps.
Maybe it's because there are fewer characters, the time line is relatively short, and there is plenty of modern day violence, gore, sex drugs, etc., to hold the viewer's attention.

Do me a favour Jeff. If you haven't already, watch Predestination. Don't read any reviews, just watch it and let me know how you go lol

I once explored the thought that "love at first sight" was possibly evidence of reincarnation... in that you may have loved that person in a previous life. Although the actors in this movie played multiple roles throughout time, I don't know if they were implying reincarnation or simply following lineage. However, the main plot point was that everything you do has an effect, and even a single act can cause ripples across centuries of time... even to inspire a future revolution.

Cloud Atlas I thought was a work of art - critical opinion is divided, and I haven't read the book...as you’re a Vin fan - I also thought the The Chronicles of Riddick was a work of art, although the extended version is a mite better.
cell says Predestination- its a good movie, and those are rare nowadays.
Having CFS/M.E I almost never get beyond my back garden so I watch a lot. But the last 2 decades there has hardly been a movie I would rate >7/10
Ex Machina is a wonderful film :)
Deadpool the best of all superhero movies times reboots of rebbots and reboots of reboots of star wars.

Cloud atlas I kinda forget I think it is about true love and souls entwined throughout all of time and destiny (hence cells predestination thingy)

At the end of the movie he is the same man, person, life as he was at the beginning of the movie only older and wiser (I think)...i forget who he was in the 5-6 stories :)-now you have even me wondering.

ps debydeb give the movie a try its a beautiful film

Cloud Atlas struck me more as a dumbed down Phillip K Dick pastiche than anything else, but there's quite a bit of fiction about reincarnation romances, so in this case I think the waters were muddied and the storyline garbled deliberately because somebody thought that would make it look more profound. (The Donny Darko approach.) Deadpool was a lot more fun than any comics involving the character have been for a very long time. Haven't seen The Last Witch Hunter, but I quite like Vin Diesel myself (it's a shame they've got him playing a tree in the Marvel films now, as he'd make a perfect voice for Thanos).

FYI I'm absolutely, positively not saying that Predestination is a good movie Wickeds, I mentioned it to Jeff because it has interesting temporal/causality themes so is probably worth a watch if you're interested in that stuff.

To sum up my opinion of Predestination, I'd liken it to a failed abortion of khloe kardashian like proportions.
