I never have trouble sleeping. I am always very tired by the time we go to bed. But Hubby has trouble, probably because He sleeps for hours in front of the TV before going to bed. If i wake up in the middle of the night He is always awake reading. I know that Valerian works very well with no side effects and it's a cheap herb.

I have had always had problems with insomnia, since childhood. I just get up and clean, do laundry, etc. Eventually it works itself out. I have learned not to become stressed out about it as that only seems to make it worse.

I work nights and go to bed when I get home. I usually don't have problems sleeping unless I am PMSing. And even then it's not a matter of being able to fall asleep, I usually wake up too early.

Take care,

I generally don't have any problem with falling asleep, but if I do it is usually a comfort thing. I will usually get my hot water bottle (it has a little sheep cover for it ), my fleece blanket, satin shawl and giant turtle pillow. Then I put in my Scuffy the Tugboat (does anyone else remember that?) video and I fall right to sleep.

Some people have problems sleeping. . .and then there are those of us that REALLY REALLY have problems sleeping. I now don't do the pill thing. (They start you off with strong stuff that works(usually a narcotic) and wean you off to what basically amounts to a decongestant.) If you fall into the second group that I mentioned 1) I'm sorry. . .I know it is hard. 2) The only thing that works/worked for me is to assess my lifestyle and plan accordingly. . .meaning I know that I just can't sleep at times. . .but I can "guage" when I'll be knocked out tired, so I'll just say. . .I'm not going to sleep tonight, I'll do x,y,z. . .but by "x o'clock tomorrow I'll be tired so I will arrange to be able to go to sleep by such-and-such a time. (yeah, it stillsucks LOL)

And if you *do* come across a non narcotic remedy. . .please let me know

Jules

I know what you mean. Although the prescriptions work in that they knock you out, I don't think they provide a quality sleep and it seems to take a long time to get out of my system. I feel messed up for a day or two after I take one. I have tried some of the herbals, valerian and kava kava, but neither seem to make me feel so well the next day. My last really bad bout with it was in June. I think I slept about 30 hours the entire month.

I have just learned to work through it or around it as the case may be.

If I can't sleep it's probably because my mind is racing for whatever reason. So I try to quiet my thoughts and control my breathing just as I would if meditating.

And if that doesn't work, I jerk off.

Ive been a person whom has thrived all My life on 4 or less hours of sleep.
Im a Workaholic and even tho I am Medically retired now I am still a disabled Workaholic.
I work 60 hours a week as a volunteer for charitable causes in their offices and run My Homes and My sons businesses while they are away at war. I work harder now disabled then I ever did as a regular working stiff in My younger years. And when I cant sleep I call My slaves at Home and talk or I read or write music while I have no slaves here in the USA under My kolar. One day I hope a Dom again will grace My bed and keep Me asleep in the ways Thorns enjoys but for now its only Me and ALLLLLL My pillows and fur blankets.
Since the loss of My Belovids those 4 hours are interupted by nightmares at times by PTS.
And at times I get up and I come here and write or go to My chat rooms.
I have sum core people here online that has helped Me in My sleeping problems.
I usually find sumone to train basics of the lifestyle to online till I feel sleepy again.
Or I stay up on the computer till it is morning and time to start the day again.
I have at times drank warm milk and tea or got up on the treadmill and turned on the tellie and watch Howard Stern or the Outter Limits Old flicks while taking a brisk walk but I do NOT nor never would take any drugs to induce sleep.

I often have problem's with staying asleep. It seem's tha this has been a problem for years...........one of the diagnosis my doctor has put on me is called Chronic Insominia. Soooo, I have had the usual prescriptions of vaious narcotics and antihysitmines (sp?) you know like Benadryl? They seem to across the board to leave me feeling dopey and hung over the next day. So I resist taking them much to my doctors dismay.

I have found sex is a good relaxer........a good orgasm is very effective at helping me to get to sleep. So often I will masturbate getting off good then............go to sleep. If it does not work I wind up getting out of bed and reading, getting online or watching tv. A good cup of herbal tea is helpful..........something like some chamomile (sp?). Then just wait to feel like I can sleep................

I've had chronic sleep problems, never diagnosed or treated, because as Jules said, I don't like being dependent on medications to sleep. Fortunately, work part time, on random days, in the evening or night, so very rarely worry about being up early (or not falling asleep at a reasonable hour).
If I absolutely have to be up and clear headed in the morning, I usually take an antihistamine or wine or both, lol... And yes, not being able to sleep whenever I want to sucks, but am grateful am not up 5am-10pm every day for work and family duties.
Like MrThorns' Idea of horizontal Mambo, but being the good girl trapped in a bad girls' body, I don't get my share (can't F' just anybody),wink.

I grab a book- any one will do, or if I don't want a light on, tune in to a couple of hours worth of familiar reruns ( Cheers, Roseanne, Gunsmoke) Any of those will put Me to sleep. Actually, I think it's the familiarity and I fall asleep waiting for the commercials to be over!

Lately with all of the madness of the holiday season, plus increased hours at work, and a little bit of help from Master ( ) i have no problem falling asleep as soon as He tells me to. When i haven't been able to sleep, i usually get up & come here to read the forums, while sipping some coffee. Works every time.
