Well, over the past few months I have been picking up free wooden pallets from a local company that gets cinder blocks, brick and stone delivered on pallets, which for some reason, their supplier never comes back to pick up.

So, after a warning from the fire marshal, three weeks of calls to their supplier, they put an add on craig's list.

And I took my truck out and got 9 truck loads of pallets, and we are talking heavy duty hard wood pallets (including 8 that were 10'x6' with 10 foot 2x6 boards.)

And the slats on these pallets are not your standard 1x boards, these things are almost an inch and half thick.

So now, Munch (aka lil boot, bed thief, sneaky) my 4 year old great nephew now has a tree house about 12 foot up in an old bull mesquite tree, the back deck has 4 benches for smoking (we moved tobacco use outside, which has cut down the amount I smoke) and I have two picnic tables (okay kera has claimed them as elevated lounge platforms, it is beneath her to lay on grass or dirt) and I just finished the 3rd shelf unit for my room.

I also built a pergola over the back deck from the recycled wood.

My next project (thanks to the discovery of a local hardware store that carries wrought iron hardware) is going to be a treasure chest toy box for the Munchster.

I really wish I had a plainer so I could plain down the slats to make some hard wood flooring for the main living room, kitchen and dining room of the house that eventually will have just Damian's grandmother as the occupant (I am planning on moving to the other property in the future, my nearest neighbor here is less than a quarter mile away, and thus it is getting way too fucking crowded.)

My only problem is that as of today, I have exhausted the local supply of walnut stain that already has the polyurethane mixed in, and there is another 8 truck loads of pallets waiting to be picked up.

You inspired me to look for sources for good quality pallets around here. Didn't find any but did stumble across a shop which is only selling furniture made from pallets. Which is pretty cool too.
