I figured it might be time to start another one of these as it has been quite awhile.

I would like to make this open to anyone who has or has ever had a furbaby or even just an animal they really loved, even if it belonged to someone else.

I will start by introducing my furred babies:
I have 2 cats and one dog.
Kitties are both rescues.
Ellie moved into my basement 3 1/2 yrs ago.
It was winter.
She is a grey long haired cat.

Theo came to live with me when he needed a new home this past February.
He is a brown tabby with a super long tail and roundish eyes.

Juniper ("Juni") is a 6-month-old f boxer mix. I have had her since she was 8 weeks old.

Gee, where to start?

Okay, when Tami (my best friend and like a sister) moved to Texas to become my late mother's home health aid/care giver, she brought with her three dogs, and while two passed over the rainbow bridge, Buddy the rat terrier is still with us and the oldest of our pack.

The next oldest is Princess, a wolf/Siberian husky hybrid that her ex bought her for a christmas present.

Then there is Jasper (who acts like an old man and thus is called old man) that I got when a dog of mine became too aggressive to keep around other dogs or my grandkids.

Then we got Lil One, a chihuahua rescue who is blind in one eye and has the impression she is godzilla's worse nightmare.

Next came Blu, a pit bull pup that was so malnourished when we rescued him that his growth was stunted.

Our next rescue was Kera, a very high content wolf hybrid who had 3 bullet wounds, 35 pounds under weight and had just had major surgery to remove an infected uterus.

It is a good thing we live in the country.

Okay, now that the list is out of the way, here is the profile of the pack as it stands.

Buddy, he is your typical laid back old guy. Fairly mellow in demeanor, rarely barks, except at treat time.

Lil One, well she is the smallest dog with the biggest attitude. She dont take shit from no one.

Princess is our Diva. She wants things on her terms, from attention to food, and with the typical lack of patience of her personality.

Blu, well he is three and still thinks he is a pup, and chases shadows and reflections.

Kera is our opinionated female know it all. Whatever it is, she has an opinion, ranging from furniture placement to debates with the local owls and coyotes.

She is also possessive of one of the benches on the back deck, meaning only she can use it. The picnic tables are her elevated lounges, while the lounge platforms I made for her to use are totally unused (she got up on them once, snorted and grumbled and never got back up on them.)

Finally Jasper, aka old man or bubba. He is our critic. He typically will grumble when we are doing anything in the kitchen, has a major problem with how the yard gets mowed (he tries to drag you by the pants leg to where he thinks you should start.)

I still have Nermal. (Think the Garfield comic strip.) She's the kitten who never grew up. Most people think she's roughly a ~ four month old kitten. She's really ~ twelve years old. She kind of looks like a grey Maine coon cat. IIRC, Kirata has one like her.

We have my son's Border Collie dog, rehomed to us at 7 months with a shot mind. He's a sweetheart, but totally tapped.

I lost my little Patterdale bitch a week before my birthday, and I'm still devastated. I'm rather lost without her. It was the best thing for her as she was a working dog, and she had become rather miserable in her old age. Being old just didn't suit her at all because her mind was still willing, but her body failed her.

I also have three rescue hens that came from a commercial farm, and saved from slaughter. They are Honey Pots, Houdini, and Yogi. Yogi should have actually been JCB with the way she excavate my garden lol. They are actually pretty useless now at laying eggs for one reason and another, but I love them anyway :-)

I have one of my two Tibetan terriers still; she will be 15 right after Christmas. Not sure she will last as she seems to be weakening some but I'm hoping that's just a reaction to the heat this summer. I lost her brother at 12 a year and a half ago and I've never recovered from that loss. Changed how I am, how I feel about life, about everything. Some losses are too much, even when you know they're inevitable.

None right now because The Man doesn't want to have to rush home to tend them. I've had two golden retrievers. The first went everywhere with us. She would trot along when my daughter rode and give the horse looks of disdain when he made a mistake.

Her shining moment came when a bear tried to break into the back door and she drove it off. And she was terrified by bears.

Two horses, both quarter horses. The first was a grandson of the top quarter horse racer. He was the only horse I've ever known who jogged slower than his walk.

He was also the top therapy horse ever seen by the therapeutic riding academy we donated him too after he saved my daughter. He reached kids no one else ever had. He just passed and when I see him at the rainbow ridge, my pockets will be filled with peppermints and jelly beans.

The love of my life was a black cat I had for 14 years. I lost him several years ago but I still dream about him often.

Since then I have relocated from the city to a small town in a questionable neighborhood where people dump animals. And I feed stray cats and a raccoon named Rocky. Rocky hasn't been here long but I make sure he has food and water.

I cant afford to get them all fixed so I try to get them homes as soon as they and any kitties are ready. A manager at the local Autozone allows us to give them away in his parking lot. Walmart will not.

They come and go. It is hard on strays and my poor cats have ran into some horrible ends. Its hard to deal with but life goes on and I feed the next poor kitty that comes along.

I have a long haired dachshund--Millie. She was a rescue in May of 2013, and it took almost a full year for her to completely come out of her shell. She enjoys socializing at the dog beach and going on long trips like Yosemite, which we did this weekend! She's a great girl with a lot of love to give. Unlike some dachshunds she doesn't bark(really--like once a week), and for that I'm eternally grateful.

I also have a calico cat named Gypsy. She was also a rescue, but not in the traditional sense. She was in my backyard when I moved into my current place and she was skin and bones. It seemed like she was left by the previous tenants--just cast aside. I like to say that I caught her with tuna but kept her with love. It took about 3 weeks for her to trust me enough to come inside or let me pet her for any length of time. One day--she walked in the door, and she hasn't left since.

My 3rd and final furbaby is Greg. His mama kitty was outside in my driveway for a week and I was feeding her--trying to gain her trust in an effort to bring her to a no-kill shelter. Once I caught her I realized she was pregnant, and that changed a few things. I no longer was willing to cast her off to a shelter. I made a place for her in my backroom to safely have her kittens, and after about two weeks--5 kittens were born. Greg was the runt, and the mama kitty was shunning him. He struggled to nurse, and when he would latch on, the mama would get up. So, I bottle fed him and put a lot of effort into keeping that baby alive. When it was time to find the others homes--I figured I put in too much effort and loved him too much to let him go. He's a grey and white (almost) 5 month old kitten.

Thanks for starting this angelica! I really enjoy reading about everyone's furbabys.

I noticed that poor Theo had symptoms of a urinary blockage.
(For those unaware, left untreated it can kill a male kitty in 3 days.)
I took him to vet's as an emergency yesterday morning and he was retaining but not blocked. The vet expressed a whole bowlful of pee from his bladder.
He sent me home with meds.

Ordinarily, I am very good at pilling cats.
Not Theo.

He bites, which is concerning to me because cat bites tend to get infected.

Any tips from anyone would be appreciated. I am going to see if he will take the pill in a pill pocket from a pet supply store.

I had great success wrapping pills in a piece of deli meat like turkey. Also in a small lump of vanilla ice cream. And lastly my vet gave me a piller that looked like a long plastic syringe holding the pill at one end, stick into the cat's mouth, depress the plunger and the pill went down. If he bites, he bites the syringe.

I sit on the bed, or carpet (not laminate). The trick is to make sure the cat is backed into your body, facing away from you, and cannot move. Prize open its cute kitty mouth and lob the kitty medicine down it first time. You will get used to it. The cats natural reaction is to try and back away.

Don’t do it facing the kitty as it will inevitable squirm, escape, then run exactly half way under the bed. Can’t say I have ever had any joy sneaking it into the cat food etc The bowl is usually licked clean bar the solitary tablet even for the ginger thieving scallywag from two rows up - when I try slip him a worming tablet.

My angels. Both rescues.
Terrence (the cat) is 8 and lazy and hungry. He snuggles and encourages napping.
Porter is my puppy- only 9 months old. He's a poodle/pryanees on moms side and a pit mix on dads side.
Porter encourages walking.

(Bear with me- I'm unsure of how pics work on here anymore)

I wish I had known about this a year ago:) thank you.

My furbaby passed seven weeks ago, im still grieving. She had had one leg removed last year for sarcoma, and it came back with a vengence, the sarcoma, not the leg.
She adapted to being a tripawd, so quickly it was amazing.and found a new lease on life.
sadly it metastasized to her spine and back leg.
She was the light of my life. But then all my furbabys have been important.
I like them more than most people.

While I will not call my cat a furbaby, I can be free to talk about her.

Her name is Alley and she is a rescue. (See her youngster pics on my profile.)

She has been a godsend to me throughout the years I have housed her. Much like my teddy bear, she has kept me anchored through so much, I cannot even begin to explain.

When I adopted her, well, that was special. For me and for her. cmail me if you would like to know the story.

I know she is aging, as am I with her... she would more than likely write the same as I am... if she isn't under another screen name. Anyway...

I know this is going to end sooner than I would like it to. She is so wonderful...

My only hope for her is that she feels the same about me that I do about her when we must say goodbye.
