Knowledge is power, so they say, and I know all even the unknown. Incidentally men there is no such thing as the gspot..I digress.
It has the money. China has allocated vast amounts of money for basic scientific research in its latest five-year development plan. It's also willing to take big risks on some as-yet unproven technologies.

China has successfully launched the world's first quantum-enabled satellite, state media said.
It was carried on a rocket which blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in China's north west early on Tuesday.
The satellite is named after the ancient Chinese scientist and philosopher Micius.
The project tests a technology that could one day offer digital communication that is "hack-proof".
But even if it succeeds, it is a long way off that goal, and there is some mind-bending physics to get past first.

How does it work?
The satellite will create pairs of so-called entangled photons - tiny sub-atomic particles of light whose properties are dependent on each other - beaming one half of each pair down to base stations in China and Austria.
This special kind of laser has several curious properties, one of which is known as "the observer effect" - its quantum state cannot be observed without changing it.

So, if the satellite were to encode an encryption key in that quantum state, any interception would be obvious. It would also change the key, making it useless.

If it works, it will solve the central problem of encrypted communications - how to distribute keys without interception - promising hack-proof communications. The encrypted message itself can be transmitted normally after the key exchange.

Hobgoblins and quantum computers afear me.

Most likely China will supersede America as the next super power within 1-2 next generations..so they will be able to help the Mexicans build a wall to keep out the rampaging hoards of savage americans
And us to wall of England, tis for the best :)

Yeah, no. So all you have to do to jam the communication and make it worthless is to observe it.

I'm reminded of Arthur C Clarke's comment that all you need to destroy a multimillion dollar satellite is a handful of nails in an opposing orbit...

I don't understand quantum stuff and that double slit experiment malarkey.... no matter

Even I know China, have spent the last 2 decades nicking all of America - computing & military secrets - the good stuff

Knowledge is power, even I know this and why they burn the libraries first https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_Alexandria and johhny terrorist a savage like beastie.

First thing we cut during project lies and austerity, well after the disabled and poor people cash, was the science budget..and yet the deficit grows.

As I've been trying to tell you, this is China's job, advanced technological progress toward the ultimate authoritarian state. The future that is not revealed yet but that is well known, is one where the ultimate diplomatic coup for the coming western fascism merges with the state-of-the-art eastern fascism.

The issue therefore is not a defense against these systems, it is the acceleration of the need for sharing the technology so the west can have it too. Russia certainly and the west having no such desire, do NOT want to shoot down these systems or render them ineffective but to replicate them for use in their surveillance, security society to among other basics...prevent future Snowdens and Assanges.

Time to fully understand that China's so-called future superpower status will be the global recognition that we are seeing the realization of beginning of the technological aspect of their status as the role model for all future authoritarian powers.

if observation changes it, when they observe to read it, it is changed, how do they know it was not changed prior to that, without observation of it?

I thought look you don't need a science ramble from me they have this sort of money....and that should scare everyone

Mrrdgers I do not believe so (Russians perhaps) - they evolved quickly - their minds are no different.

Very cool. When I learned about these particles in high school physics, I thought it would be neat to develop a full-blown communication system out of them. The thing that blew everyone's mind is that communication of the change state between the particles travels faster than the speed of light (it is instantaneous), regardless of the distance. We still know so little about the quantum universe, I love seeing these news stories.

Well in a general sense, I am sure from the four corners of the earth, there is espionage going on in China as we type, to get the inside info. on just what they've done and what they are doing. I'd be amazed if the CIA et al, isn't already all over this.
