The BDSM scene alone is one factor. More male subs than female dommes. Another factor is that in the western world, women are heavily overvalued in the dating market while men are heavily undervalued in the dating market. That's why some fat unemployed skank with a ton of kids would have it a lot easier than the average looking slim built male with an middle class socioeconomic status.

The dating market is 50% male and 50% female. It is impossible for any one gender to be over-valued when the numbers match. Online sites and (possibly) the fetish scene have higher rates of male participation and there may be an imbalance there, but real world dating is balanced between the sexes.

Some people within each gender who have attributes which are in high demand (young, good looking women or men with high socio-economic status come to mind) will do much better than other people of the same gender. This has nothing to do with that gender being any better off than the other.

I'll also add that the men are the ones doing the overvaluing. It's like being mad at the woman because the male cop doesn't giver her a ticket. You're mad at the effect rather than the cause.
