DesFIP -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/7/2016 11:04:38 AM)

I loved disco. Speaking of which, Donna Summer.

WhoreMods -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/7/2016 11:30:01 AM)

Disco, you say?
I Feel Luuuuuuuurve*
Fuck Off!Freak Out!
Disco To Go
Flashlight
It's Raining Men
Russia's Greatest Love Machine
Zombie (Goes on a bit, but just listen to those drums...)
The fuckin' Stones, yet! Suited them a bit better than reggae, didn't it?
Rock The Boat
I'd Rather Be With You
Not Queen

*(Word is Morodor± used to stand behind the drummer with a blunt implement and hit him if he started playing flashy. Awesome!)
±(One does not simply walk into Morodor. One uses lube on his arse first...)

absolutely not:)
Loved the sound, just not the players. And their early stuff.

Thing is, as this thread goes on there was so much good stuff around. this is a good thing for my old brain.
I really enjoyed heavy metal as a teen and punk, disco, soul, country, R&B, electro, glam, etc, so much to choose from so much to enjoy. (Unless you are a purist [;)])

Because if the 'Sixties was all the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Hendrix and Who*, rather than shite like Ohio Express, Ken Dodd and The Shadows, then it seems a bit off to dismiss the following ten years on the grounds of a novelty record you don't much like...
Kraftwerk
Buzzcocks
More Buzzcocks
Devo
Neil Young
Van Der Graaf Generator
Gary Numan
Hawkwind
Blue Oyster Cult
Black fookin' Sabbath
The Saints
Richard and Linda Thompson
ELP
John Martyn
David Bowie
and there might, just possibly, be one or two others...

*(Who put out their best album in 1970, it's worth remembering)

Well, it's hardly true that the 70's weren't....also....about The Beatles (and the 80's, 90's and.....today....however....)....the best album of the 70's....I'd have to hand that to Elton John....as to....several...(if not most) of his albums.

Don't remember if he had anything out other than his "best of" in the 80's but....if he did, then....I'd say he owns the early 80's as well.

I should have added some Alice Cooper and Mott The Hoople, now you mention Glam Rock...

Alice Cooper.....gotta admit....the 70's wouldn't have been the 70's without him.

First song of his that got me hooked: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMkT-0i6e9I

(Coolest part about this guy: He used to golf.....regularly....with Bob Hope).

Lucylastic -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/10/2016 5:16:33 PM)

Big fan of Elton back in the day, helped that he was chairman of the local soccer club

Alice Cooper "Schools Out " was a favourite but "From the Inside" was and is one of his best albums I have(in my humble opinion)

That puts you close to my stamping ground back then Lucy. I lived in Little Chalfont *smile* and I totally agree with you about Elton

Simon & Garfunkel
ELO
Lynyrd Skynrd
Neil Diamond
Harry Chapin
Jim Croce
Hele Reddy
Leo Sayer
Arlo Guthrie
Bee Gees
Carly Simon & The Simon Sisters
Chicago
Rod Stewart
Tom Jones
Bread
Deep Purple
James Brown
Kinks

I could go on...

I really like the punk ones (Zipper Catches Skin, Flush the Fashion and Special Forces) but that's getting into the '80s.

As for Elton, he's always left me a bit cold, but I do think it's very unfair that most of the fuss over him is over him showing off on the piano like a midget Liberace or his songwriting (which at its best, is pretty much Jackson Browne), rather than that rather striking voice he's got. That really is his best card and when he's got a decent song to work with where he can let rip with it, even my objections are stilled...

WhoreMods -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/11/2016 10:43:38 AM)

Somebody else we've been forgetting:
Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
Reasons To Be Cheerful

You mentioning the BeeGees made me think of Saturday Night Fever and then Grease, LOL
I used to teach dancing when they came out, and I had to learn the dances to teach them. I think I saw grease and SNF about 14 times \.
of course, then there is The Hustle....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj23_nDFSfE

That Freddie vid is awesome!!!!

WhoreMods -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/11/2016 11:18:44 AM)

He was another extraordinary voice that was often concealed by its setting, so it's really nice to hear the stripped down thing.
(Not sure that one's quite the song I'd have picked to showcase that myself, mind)

And if we're still on disco:
Bop Gun
I Call My Baby Pussycat

Lucylastic -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/11/2016 12:10:06 PM)

Another one I play a lot...STILL...
Tubular bells
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbnSsTtctTY

Oh and this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCJpzpd-8us&list=RDbCJpzpd-8us#t=74
Dr Hook....in love with a beautiful woman, but that is far from being my favourite which is hard to make a choice but..

I'll think I go with this for now
Carry Me Carrie

But Ballad of Lucy Jordan is a very close one

I saw them live in the early 80s, and it was everything I could have wanted it to be...except it was missing Silverstein.

WhoreMods -> RE: Music of the 1970s: comparable to the '60s stuff? (9/11/2016 12:15:13 PM)

Was Marianne Faithful's version of Lucy Jordan the late '70s, or was that one the '80s?
And if we're having horror film soundtracks, how about Goblin?
(They did Dawn Of The Dead as well...)
