Some of you may remember the post I made about a neighbor that decided to eliminate a very old mesquite tree that was blocking his proposed new driveway with a five pound coffee can packed with black powder.
Blowing up stumps has been a good idea of years, but the key word is stumps.
This was a very healthy mesquite.
The concussion from the blast blew out all the windows in his house that faced that tree.
The tree is still there.
Cost to replace 19 non standard size windows $15,989
Cost to rent a dozer to push the tree down $500
Okay, now lets go on to the next idea.
Way back in the day before electronic ignition, NOs was the way to go for the ultimate high performance or adding a blower.
Not both.
A local hotrodder tried the two in combination, estimating close to a thousand horses as a result.
However the increased compression pressure blew both heads out through the hood.
The Edsel
Edsels had the shifting mechanism to the automatic transmission run through the steering column and the buttons in the center of the steering wheel.
Would have been a great idea if the technology would have been there to support it.
Edsel didnt last long.
Chrysler came up with the most efficient engine to put in a car.
Basically a turbine.
Worked great until the heat from the turbine started melting the body.
Not enough air moving through the engine compartment to keep it cool.
The corvair.
Air cooled super fast car powered by an aircraft engine.
Great idea, except at top speed there was no way to keep the car on the road.
Gasoline to start a bonfire
