Have never worn a hood - terrified one would not be able to breathe - yet dream of wearing one - terrified, but excited at the prospect.  Maybe would be best to start off with something simple that could be removed quickly, and build up to a full hood?  Don't know, but it seems the deprivation, not knowing what is coming, but knowing it is something delicious - mmmmmmmmmm maybe someday.

RiotGirl -> RE: Hoods (9/14/2006 5:23:30 PM)

Funny, i've gotten a waaaaaaay new perspective on things.

My general reply is "i hate hoods, they suck"  But um.. been thinking that with, uh, certian ppl they wouldnt suck.  Not that i've ever been hooded with those ppl.... but i think if i was ever in that situation, and was hooded, i think it would be pretty damn fascinating.  I think it would highten things alot.  I think i would know excatly where he was even more.  I think, you'd connect with the person so much more.  i um... think the energy flow would be that much stronger..

honestly, i dont think a hood would really change much.  Maybe alittle, but i'm trying to go back in my minds eye - and i wasnt really using my eyes.  Towards the end.. i wasnt really using them either.. i was more listening.. <grins>

i think with the right person.. nothing is terrifying and i think if it is terrifying its the wrong person.  Though granted, i was told with a smile that fear can and is a good thing.  But terrifying?  nah.. not that much fear.

Exactly how it is for me.  i am surrounded by good people, and i do feel very safe to trust them.  Then again, that is because i can trust in myself. *smile

Rafters -> RE: Hoods (9/14/2006 6:11:07 PM)

Actually the "other person" effect you mention is something I'm curious about, because I've seen manifest itself in subbies. They will do things eyes-open yet masked that they would be embarrassed or hesitant to do with their faces visible.

I suspect it's because their face is associatted with their vanilla identity, so masking their face oils their path to namelesss submission.
But becuase their submission is "easier" is it the full monty?

I have never been hooded.

Im not sure if it would trigger my claustrophobia.

<I think they look ugly too>

Though, in my darkest thoughts, Ive gone there in my mind... I think it would really bring that whole 'object' thing to the surface, possibly like nothing else.

Maybe someday.

Claustrophobia aside.

But now you are wearing one.  If the one you are wearing is like mine, the 'eyes' can snap on or off, to better heighten the sensation.  However in this case your eyes are uncovered.  The gag can snap on or off as well.

You are led to your own mirror, where you see...... well, something, or someone, you cannot recognize.  A face of leather, smooth.  You can't see the strings in back, but you know that it has been adjusted and pulled tight, like adjusting the strings on a shoe.  You feel the tightness then.  Like a second skin.

All that you recognize of yourself is your own eyes.  Other than that, anonymity.

Do you find yourself ugly now?  What do you see?  Perhaps more importantly, who do you see?  Who is that in the mirror?

Jeff

Oh god, no mirror!!  The mirror wrecks it all.  I dont want to see my eyes. I dont want to see myself.  I would want to lose myself, not face myself. <shivers>

I'd like some opinions on hoods and sensory deprivation--pro's and cons please---what do you as a Dominant derive from it---what do you as the submissive derive from it?

In either case it encloses a part of the body so it's a bit of a form of bondage and restriction.  It's also sensory so the sensation of having the hood on can be interesting.  As to deprovation things like sight and sound can be limited.  Same with the ability to be heard when speaking.

If it's tight fitting like rubber or spandex then it can be like a second skin that is transformative in some way since they no longer look like their average self.

You'll hate me then [:D]
I routinely take photos and set them as the shared background wallpaper when chatting on MSN.

It's more permanent than a mirror, keeps the conversation on topic and I've never had to answer the question "What kind of women do you think I am??"[:D]

And dragging things kicking and screaming back on topic, subbies in a hood, mask and/or creative postures, dont have to worry about their face appearing on the net.

I got my hood myself to first experance it so I could be comfortable with it. Now it's a complete feeling of peace when I get it put on me by my mistress. Not knowing what she's going to do is a huge rush for me. But I recomend you try it on yourself first. It's a very confinning feeling.

I've never worn a hood, but that's exactly what I've always thought it would be like. (And I've wanted to try it for a long time.)

corsetlaura -> RE: Hoods (9/23/2006 8:04:53 AM)

Mmmmmm, latex hoods.  I am hooded with a black latex inflatable ball hood about once a month. If you want to experience real sensory deprivation, this hood is for you.  When the thing is inflated the inner casing is pressed tightly against your skull by air pressure and you are floating inside the balloon with three breathing tubes in your mouth. You cannot hear or see, and you taste only the rubber in your mouth. Naturally, your Master can close off the air holes at the top of the balloon to get your attention. I become very doscile very quickly when hooded this way. It places you so totally under his control, and coupled with a major rope harness, there's nothing to do but trust in Him.

I like how hoods can rob a person with an attractive face of one of the things they use to get their way in life - it's a great equalizer.

dommeinnj -> RE: Hoods (11/3/2006 1:03:30 PM)

i happen to like them on my girl.
different ones for different situations. also they have so must versitility. you can attach a ny type of gag you choose, add blindfold, also, as someone stated, earplugs enhance the experience. i have found that for extended periods of time, leather seems the better choise, since latex can be more constrictive. rubber is even moreso, and for shorter periods, can really enhance the subs "space" and feeling of helplessness and vulnerability. add a good single sleeve or straight jacket, and hmmmmmm oh myyyyyyy. the image it makes,

Tyrantx8 -> RE: Hoods (11/3/2006 3:49:02 PM)

 I love Latex Hoods...I have a few. I've been wanting a leather hood too, but they're still a bit pricey for my just-out-of-school budget. I really love the feeling of a tight hood, how it limits (or in some cases totally cuts off your senses). Good stuff :)

chrisea623 -> RE: Hoods (11/5/2006 4:48:49 PM)

helpless, isolated, i exist for your lash, your taste, your touch, your smell in the darkness in the leather tomb of the hood..

Have never experienced a hood and while i definitely wouldnt rule them out, especially reading some of the comments here, i just dont like looking at them! For some reason they creep me out!! Dont ask me why! But then if i am wearing one i wont have to see myself would i?? lol

yes that is the appeal

QuietDom -> RE: Hoods (11/12/2006 11:35:49 PM)

I didn't understand the appeal of hoods at all, initially.  I happen to like seeing a sub's facial expressions; all the more so if it's an especially attractive sub.  The black "cannon-ball head" was aesthetically blank.  And I didn't see a hood being able to do anything you couldn't already do with a blindfold and gag.

Then my first sub bought a latex hood, and wanted to try it, having wanted one for some time.  And only then did I understand.  The effect was similar to objectification in a sense, but instead of denying her humanity and reducing her to "object," it denied her individuality and reduced her to a generic, faceless, interchangeable "sub."  More than even cuffs and collar, I think, the hood removed her from herself and planted her more firmly into her role -- and with the hood being in my control, it was in my power to decide when to return her identity to her.  Surprisingly powerful, and erotic.

(As it happened, I didn't get to choose when the hood came off, though.  The hood had a built-in cock gag -- and the hood had to come off after she'd sucked it completely off the hood, to ensure that she wouldn't choke on it.  She intended to reattach it with a more powerful adhesive than the manufacturer had used, but we broke up shortly thereafter, and never played with it again.)

HeatherDawn49 -> RE: Hoods (8/10/2008 12:28:38 PM)

I simply adore the use of hoods. Once you place the hood on your sub/slave with the blind fold and gag in place or use the latex sensory depervation hood the sub/slave is then compleatly helpless as they cant see what your doing or getting for use on them ........ as well as they cant hear where you are at any perticular moment. thus you can startle them with the light touch of a feather or the harsher touch of the lash. mix it up like that and keep them guessing as to what is comming next.

hardbodysub -> RE: Hoods (8/10/2008 1:24:53 PM)

The anonymity and objectification appeal to me, as do the opportunities for adding a gag or other bondage to the hood. Blindfolding and sensual deprivation do not appeal to me. Maybe, if the right domina really liked them, and introduced me to them slowly, it might be okay. But for now, no, no, no. I seek sensual stimulation, not deprivation.

I've only worn a hood once (though I've been blindfolded on numerous occasions).  The hood was a much more intense experience and triggered a very vulnerable feeling/subdrop experience for me in which my dom stopped the scene and had me talk about what I was feeling.  He hypothesized that it was the anonymity that got to me.  I just remember feeling very lost and vulnerable and suddenly I was weeping and couldn't seem to stop.  He hasn't used it since, but maybe it wouldn't be so upsetting during subsequent sessions since I've already experienced it once.

Indeed. Perhaps building a certain level of familiarity with it and becoming somewhat desensitized will do the trick for you and allow you to enjoy the experience. This approach makes sense to me.

A hood is one toy I've never owned and actually would like to. Occasionally playing with one seems like it would be a lot of fun from both the dom and sub perspective. I wouldn't hesitate to give it a shot with a responsible second party of course... I don't think I would like it on a regular basis though. I'm very much into "face-to-face time" and interpreting facial expressions, etc.
