What are you trying to say, that Hezzbollah is not an indigenous resistance movement? I would ask the sh-ite Lebanese of south Lebanon. The fact that they are helped by Iran is no big deal, Israel is bank rolled by the USA so what is the difference? Are Israelis terrorists because they are paid for by another country?

Amazing that a simple link to an historic list of when and where Hezbollah was created and operated, would generate such a foaming at the mouth spate of paranoid accusations.

You just cannot deal with the fact that some people would rather think for themselves.

You posted it in reply to my post, I simply answered. If you don't want a response, say it is general but people will make their own minds up anyway and probably have before they even read the link.

personal opinion: Isreal has the right to do whatever the hell they want to do, since Isreal has been around roughly 3,000 years longer than the United States of America has been around.  Now I proudly am an american citizen, but that doesn't give me the right to tell any other nation in this world whats right and whats wrong in their own country.  It does give me the opportunity to voice my opinion, whether vocally, wirtten, or otherwise, and not be persecuted for it.

Now I don't know all the facts.  I know Isreal and Palestine have been at war over the supposed resting place of Noah's Ark for an awfully long time. I know Isreal has every person who reaches the age of 18 spend 4 years in the military, regardless of whether they want to go to college or not.  I know if Syria screwed up and stuck their nose into the Lebanese affairs, the country formerly known as Syria would have an afterglow for the next 10,000 years.  I also know we (the USA) are the most arrogant country in the world.

"ORIGINAL: WhipTheHip

If I am not mistaken this whole thing started when Hezbollah crossed over into Israel, killed 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped one soldier."

It is the correct timeline for this particulat conflict, although this has been brewing for many years."

sorry IB, but on that point i think you're being just as selective as anyone else. Those who support Israel see the trigger point as a Hamas or Hezbollah action, those who see Israel as the aggressor point to the hundreds of civilians still being held by Israel among other things. We risk getting things out of context when we put an arbitrary start point to a conflict and make it too easy to bog the discussion down in a 'who started it' sort of way.
In another discussion you answered a query of mine and declared your partisanship on this matter. Absolutely fair enough, but it does leave you open to accusations of selective memory when you make an arbitrary start point to a conflict in order to make sure Israel are not seen as aggressors.

Seperate issue, is it fair to say that those with military backgrounds are less worried about the civilian deaths in Lebanon than they are about those in Israel? Is it because a formal army killed a thousand-odd civilians in Lebanon as opposed to a bunch of terrorists killing about a hundred Israelis?

They certainly have the right. Which country in the world do you know of that would allow rockets to be fired at it, citizens kidnapped, and would not react even harsher then Israel has ? What would the US do if even Canada decided to send rockets to terrorize us ?

You would have a credible argument if it wasn't on the whole the other way round. I suggest you visit the Arab occupied territories and you will see who is terrorising who and you will understand why there is no peace in the area. On several counts israel is breaking international law and acting criminally under the terms of the Geneva convention.

To the best of my knowledge, America didn't displace Canadians, turn them into second class citizens in their own land, bulldoze their homes and destroy their livelihood.  I might be wrong.
