Preachers ask for 10% every Sunday.

The Mormons ask for 30%...

No. It's 10%. Where did you hear 30% that's categorically false

From a Morman

Well I'm Mormon and they were wrong. Tithing is (1/10) 10% of your income

https://www.lds.org/topics/tithing?lang=eng

“Tithing is the great equitable law, for no matter how rich or poor we are, all of us pay the same one-tenth of our increase annually (see D&C 119:4), and all of us receive blessings so great ‘that there shall not be room enough to receive [them]’ (Malachi 3:10).”

—Robert D. Hales
“Becoming Provident Providers Temporally and Spiritually,” Ensign, May 2009, 9

I asked, he told me that he tithes 30% - I may have misunderstood him, but you took something that was intended as a cute quip and decided to get your panties in a wad.

So....have a nice day.

I don't find misinformation about my religion cute. My panties are not wadded. Just wanted to clear up the misinformation.

We can tithe what ever percentage above 10% we want, but to remain in good standing we strive to tithe 10%. Anything above that is voluntary and it's not required. And tithe is only required if one wants to hold a calling or do work in the temple. Just FYI. No panties were harmed in the responses to this thread

Would you ever consider being a pillar of support in a man's life for a monthly payment of 10% of his income?

How much time would you spend with him?
How hard would you push him?

Hypothetically, let's say he is at $0.00 how much time would you invest, what sort of increase would you need to see?

(This makes NO sense to me).

I find that fascinating. Why is it based on income when the verse you quoted speaks of 'increase'. Based on that line it would seem that it's talking about overages (your increase in wealth since last year, i.e. your savings/recreational spending) and not 'total income made' considering that common living expenses (food, shelter, etc) aren't really an 'increase' they're a status quo needed to maintain life.

Any idea why it's based on income and not on 'money left over after living expenses are paid for'?

Let me explain, as someone who lived in Utah six years.

Mormons are required to tithe 10%. However, on top of that, they are hit up for other causes by their church. I would expect that it would all add up to 15%- 20%, but I wouldn't be surprised if they all added up to 30%.

Outside of Utah there is no pressure to give anymore than the standard 10%. Our family couldn't afford it. In fact, because we are full tithe payers we've been able to go to the church when we've had financial difficulty and get help paying our essentials like groceries and rent. It's a pretty awesome system.

Some people do pay tithing only on their increase after living expenses are paid. Good question!

My husband is a born and raised Mormon and he chooses to pay on his income before tax. I honor his decision. The church helps us with living expenses if we find ourselves struggling and I think that's pretty incredible. And I've had a bishop tell me he didn't believe the Lord wanted anyone to go into debt or fail to take care of their family because of tithing so he told us when we were really broke to pay what we could in good faith and the Lord would understand.

There's a lot of things about the church that even members get confused about. If I ever have doubts or concerns I pray. I'm not perfect, I commit some major transgressions, but I know the Lord has our best interest at heart and no matter what people say you should or shouldn't do, the Lord loves us and the details people squabble and fight over religiously don't really matter in the end.

WickedsDesire -> RE: 10% income tribute (10/13/2016 7:39:12 AM)

tithe I didn't know that olde English for tenth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tithe interesting article church taxes etc from various countries.

Germany levies a church tax, on all persons declaring themselves to be Christians, of roughly 8–9% of their income tax, which is effectively (very much depending on the social and financial situation) typically between 0.2% and 1.5% of the total income. The proceeds are shared amongst Catholic, Lutheran, and other Protestant Churches...
I found the article disturbing Just collections they have here. I have zero plans of ever returning to church is been well over 30 years for me - and the finances of the vatican are not relevant on this one

And why is it always two beautiful women from Scientology - wait not that one as i have no money - that come to my door - ah Jehovah's Witnesses. Wonders if the women get two hot men at their doors?

mid edit one below me your name is nightmare for my illness to type out - I know I just got that i can be a bit slow at times. Greatlilbabygirl I have to copy and paste user names so I don't misspell, word salad etc ;)

Why fucking settle.

Now gimme....

Hell yes.

Wives get a 100%. Why settle for less?

You want to turn your relationship into a fiscal transaction? The going (Pro-Domme) rate seems to be around $250/hour.

So if a mere pro-Domme get's $250 per, what would a unique artiste such as my own bad self charge on the open market?

Hmmmmmmm
