First, you people need to go here

Did a test fire and punched a hole through one side of an engine block. (let the anti gun people consider that!)

To make this baby man portable, need to find a better battery source.

On less destructive notes:

1) Dont trust the amp reading on blade fuses, had a board smoke that I was building for a home brew ham rig, the 15 amp should have popped and didnt, burned out about 12 bucks worth of components and ruined a board.

2) If you are into building electronics, your first project should be a constant current power supply for your bench (see item 1) because it seems that there will be current fluctuations when the winds blow the power lines.

3) there are suppliers for vacuum tubes, and I am talking new ones, not hold overs from the old days (although there are plenty of those still around.)

4) Mice and rats are not the only critters that eat cable insulation... squirrels do as well and they scold you for yelling at them for eating the shielding off your antenna coax. (wonder if coax makers use nut flavored outer coverings.)

For those who live with a technogeek

1) Electronic tools are not for use on anything but electronics (in other words, if you need to pluck eyebrows, get the damn tweezers from the medicine cabinet.)

Note for #4: the insulation on most auto wiring is now a soy-based product to reduce costs, weight, and a way to "go green" (less plastic).
However, this insulation is also very tasty to squirrels, as evidenced by two reports of squirrel damage in the last 4 months in the automotive advice section of the local paper. The advice from the column was to spray all auto wiring with a special squirrel repellent.

We've had a couple small car fires from mice nests. Didn't realize we need to add squirrel proofing to the rodent repellents.

"Bus bars"?
Bloody right that'll electrocute somebody clueless...

This may be true, but hey, think of it this way, if the individual is so clueless that they do not do a bit of research, then do we really want them breeding?

I refer to the following warning labels:

On a Swedish built chainsaw: Do not attempt to stop blade with hands or genitals

On styrofoam coffee cups in the US: Warning: Contents may be hot

On any blow dryer: Do Not Use in Shower

On Adult sized Superman Halloween costume: Does Not Grant Wearer the Ability to Fly

Any one of the above leads me to wonder about the term "Intelligent" when applied to the human species.

The Superman costume one I'd not heard before.
[:D]
Aren't some of the warnings used in the 'States to prevent litigation, rather than to protect the cretinous, though?

Would that be a Canadian pair of strides at the bottom?

WTF are strides?

WhoreMods -> RE: Lab notes (or technofun stuff to do when bored.) (10/31/2016 11:08:58 AM)

Trousers.

Trousers.

In the picture they looked like blue jeans, not trousers. I mean they are made of denim.

WhoreMods -> RE: Lab notes (or technofun stuff to do when bored.) (10/31/2016 1:17:49 PM)

Jeans are trousers. I think this is another of those misuses of English things.

(Though strictly speaking, the popular misuse of "pants" over there is from the French rather than English.)

Oh brother, Jeans are not trousers.

Just like an elevator is NOT a lift.

Fair enough. We can dismiss this as a disagreement about semantics, then.

From my electron microscopy career, a $5000 part will always save a 50 cent fuse by frying first.

WhoreMods -> RE: Lab notes (or technofun stuff to do when bored.) (11/1/2016 12:16:01 PM)

Isn't the point of fuses supposed to be to prevent that happening?
