I think you're partially right Blink, but, it won't come from the top and sadly, for many, anything we do to impede what this guy has promised to do (get rid of the criminals in our govt., increase jobs, etc.) will be the losers.

The winners will be the ones who say "okay, I didn't vote for him but, he's now OUR Prez....which makes him MY Prez....and unless he proves to be dangerous to Constitutional law.....I'm gonna give the guy more than a shot....I'm gonna give the guy a hand at achieving his goals".

Me? I'm going to support my Prez.....as I did with Obama.....as I did with Bush....and because I didn't want the job (and they clearly did)....I'm also not going to impede my Prez, or his efforts.

I'm going to do everything I have an ability to do....to help him achieve the goals that benefit us all.

Exactly, didn't waterboarding lead to information that was instrumental in getting Bin Laden? Personally I don't have a problem with any of it. Give me a butane burner

That's really very diplomatic of you... or possibly very naive, especially considering what his goals are.

I suppose it's possible that an authoritarian leader won't use 'cleaning up Washington' as an excuse to dispose of his political rivals... but given Trump's disposition, I can't say it would surprise me. And I'm pretty sure that jobs don't magically appear during trade wars... I just hope that people actually realize that when things are getting worse for them that it's very possible that things won't get better by sticking to the same strategy. Or maybe Trump will just distract them with bully tactics while privately negotiating even slimier international deals... like say, entering a NAFTA deadlock with Canada while rushing Keystone for the oil tycoons, so that everyone focuses on the temporary work created by its construction while ignoring the disappearance of a lot of lumber and other raw materials.

Honestly, I was certain that the biggest problem isn't that manufacturing went overseas, it's that the cost and quality of education prevented people from properly adapting to the global economy. The rampant anti-intellectualism and bizarre affection for 1950s-style factory labor didn't help either... especially considering a lot of those jobs were killed by technology. If they're really upset about it, maybe they should become Amish.

It's not surprising that doing nothing doesn't work any better than using force.

Most of the demonstrations have been peaceful so far, but if the protests continue and ultimately organize themselves into a movement of some kind, I won't be surprised. Just what kind of movement(s) they will be I can't say... but events like this are always an opportunity for militant political organizations, and because you've elected an authoritarian bigot, these people (and others) are finally disillusioned enough to want to join them. Even relatively mainstream media are calling for resistance.

You can either keep using this as an excuse to insult lefties, or you can start to accept the fact that Trump is never going to be accepted, is never going to unite the country, and resistance is the new norm.
