Identity Theft Scam?

I don't usually use forums but I am very concerned at this point regarding a user that I now believe used me for identity theft. Any insight would be helpful.

A user asked me to verify myself to ensure that I am legitimate and I thought that was fine because there are many fake profiles here.

They said:

"Take three proof pics of your FACE, and put one that is dated as your main profile pic. ALSO, take a pic of your driver's license, and block out the name/address. The point is, they should all match. NONE OF THIS should be a problem, since, after all, YOU’RE “real”, right? I mean, you wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite, would you?"

I went ahead and did it and blocked everything on my driver's license except the picture and the state. They simply replied:

"Thanks for the pics, fella. Nice work."

Then they visited my profile and deleted their account.

I feel like I've obviously been duped for some sort of identity theft scheme but I was wondering if anyone knew what it is and if there is anything I can do at this point.

I also don't understand the point of requesting me to put a face picture as my profile pic.

Status: offline 		It's probably an online scammer who wants your pics and drivers license picture to set up a fake profile in order to scam other people.

Was their English awkward/weird/unusual in some way? If so, it's probably a Nigerian (or other African country) scammer who was data mining you in order to scam other people online.

Be happy that all they scammed you out were your picture.

Status: offline 		Well keep in mind that they asked for you to show your DL with only the name and address blanked out, perhaps they were hoping to get your DL number, and maybe the reason they totally disappeared was because you didn't give them that.

It is possible they could use those pictures on another site/suprious chat app like kik snapwaffle to con people out of the titty pictures -pretend they are hot lesbian (men do that fuk knows why).

Any site that operates a verification system will ask for
1. A face picture
2. The sites name and your username written on it - not your real name...fabs do, alt to if i remember..here you can also do it
3. http://www.datingkinky.com/ ask for a unique code - fuking right i am name dropping that site.

Can i just remind everyone never to use their exact date of birth on any site - security question, nor your real name ty smiles oh and fuk facebook

That's the thing I don't get. Aren't these scams used with pictures of military, pretty people or rich people.

No. They're best done with pictures of real people. Especially pictures that cannot be found on a google search online.
Marks are getting much better lately at picking up on fake pics. Pics like the one you presumably provided aren't going to set off red flags immediately.

Status: offline 		Maybe I can find a way to get those pics onto google search and mention that someone may be using them for scams. I know you can now search through images from a picture in your possession.

I tried looking at reporting this incident but government identity sites don't have an option for pictures. Should I be worried about this coming back to hurt me? What if someone falls for these scams with my photos being used.

Not a bad idea. It's the only thing that you can do, and it would be very easy.

All you have to do is upload them somewhere where google crawlers can easily find them, and explain that they were stolen and might be used for a scam.

No.

Stop worrying about it. There's nothing you can do. It's not your responsibility. People who will fall for these scams would have fallen for them anyways, with your pictures, or those of another.

Status: offline 		There are also just non-scamming "time wasters". I didn't think they really existed or know what people were complaining about. These are people who are totally fake and act like scammers, but they are just getting their jollies by extracting "information" from you, whether text or pics. Maybe without any intent to "use" that "information" later. I can't explain their reasoning, but such people definitely exist. Now that my scam detector is calibrated, these are all that I am left with aside from genuine folks.
