This article says we top the world in Education.

Anyway, it is interesting they are comparing, I mean from 7 to 12 yr old level of what American kids learn and what we learn. American kids has to deal with alot of subjects. We only have 4. Math, Science, English and a Second Language of your choice. There are Art, Civic Education as well but those don't have exams so they don't count.

So technically, because we had less to absorb, so we fare better on the two big subjects, science and math?

I always preferred the American education where it's appears to be more subjects and more things and more broad based. Singapore education is sooooo specific. And you have to make those specific choices from very young. From 13 to 14 yr old, your subjects increases to typically 7 or 8. With the addition of usually Geography, Art, History, Literature, Accounting etc.

And then by 15 yr old, you have to CHOOSE to specialise. Back to only 5 subjects, not precisely by your choice, but by your grades. If you score badly in the ones you suck at, you will probably be forced to quit those subjects.

Of course, the usual math, science, english and second language is non-negotiable. Then what happens is, math and science becomes more detailed. Different types of math, then science get split into biology, physics and chemistry.

Anyway I don't like our system. It sucks!

There gotta be a better measure of education, other than grades in Math and Science. They should start measuring it on broad based knowledge.
