Interesting article - they're not really sure why

Pubic Grooming increases risk of STIs

Overall, groomers tended to be younger, more sexually active, and to have had more sexual partners than those who don't groom their pubic hair, the survey found. Extreme groomers had a higher number of sexual partners than any other category of groomer.

`Ya think?

I thought it had to do with lesions, nicks or tears that opens the area to infection.
I know that the "creams" come with warning not to use on broken skin, and ingrowing pubes happen for the same reason for shaving, I havent read the info in depth, but having groomed my own areas for the past 30 years, and a labial piercings it would seem to be common sense....but i am uber sensitive to the after effects of wax. cream, p.lucking and shaving.
Thanks for sharing:)

I am surprised they didn't extend the risk to cancer, since HPV can lead to that. Its doesn't stop at STDs.

In my studies, it has been discussed that shaving, for example, leaves micro-cuts in the skin, which means direct-to blood contact. Waxing can do the same thing when hairs are ripped out of their follicles.

Also, a "bush" provides a small barrier against skin-to-skin contact outside of the condom zone (which only protects from SOME STDs/STIs), and offers some protection there, especially from HSV lesion-skin contact.

After reading the article, it seems to me that it's a bit silly. That's ONE study. There have been so many more done, you'd think they report on some of the other finding, backing up his hypothesis.

But, the researchers still found an 80 percent increased risk of sexually transmitted infections in anyone who reported having ever groomed at all, even after adjusting for the person's age and their lifetime number of sexual partners.

Yes. Because this.

I thought pubic depilation could at least help to prevent crabs. Are lice too big to be considered an STI?

It does reduce drastically/prevent crabs/pubic lice.

But I've referred to them (and seen them referred to) as an infestation, rather than an STI/STD. They are not an internal issue. Online, many people have called them an STD, but I wonder about their accuracy. Are lice a disease? In any form?

Interestingly, though, having pubic lice has been conjectured to also open you to more easily contracting STIs/STDs.

When I epilate, I always bleed. But I always epilate an hour before I have sex.

I reckon if the person I am having sex with has STI, I'd be in trouble, due to bleeding wounds from plucked pussy hair.
