Greta75 -> Already 5 amazing woman appointed by Trump (12/8/2016 11:40:10 PM)

Trump recognizes women who have achieved great heights.

Looking at his cabinet. I think he would have put in more women than Hillary would have!

So much for him being sexist.

He is just an equal opportunity insulter who likes to hit below the belt.

But he definitely has alot of respect for women who are as capable as men in running the show.

Betsy DeVos
Linda McMahon
Kellyanne Conway (A woman he trusted with one of the most difficult task of his campaign and now has proven herself to continue in his cabinet)

And Asian women too!

Nikki Haley - Sikh Indian
Elaine Chao - CHINESE WOMAN!
Seema Verma - South Indian

Trump is gonna do better stuffs for woman than Hillary ever would!

It starts with hiring women! And empowering them.

Seriously?

Kudos to The Donald.

I've only seen reports of him hiring half of the generals because he must be going to get all militaristic an' shit.

Not a dicky bird about teh wimminz.

or he wants women who share his idiotic views on the world and USA.

My vote is for that. Research some of these women. Do not like them just because they happen to have a vagina.

Which woman do you object to?

There are 3 Asian women who were born to immigrant parents. You mean one of them is a bad choice?

mnottertail -> RE: Already 5 amazing woman appointed by Trump (12/9/2016 6:29:23 AM)

Betsy DeVos
Linda McMahon
Kellyanne Conway
Nikki Haley
Elaine Chao
Seema Verma

All objectionable. And I would count six in my language.

Baldrick -> RE: Already 5 amazing woman appointed by Trump (12/9/2016 6:36:22 AM)

DeVos is a proponent of charter schools, has no educational background... yet is slated to be secretary of education..

Linda McMahon... what does she know about small business?

No idea what "charter schools" is. Americans got alot of strange terms for education.
Ok, according to wiki, it is: "a U.S. and Canadian term for a school that receives government funding but operates independently of the established public school system in which it is located, and in some cases are privately owned. Charter schools are an example of alternative education."

Actually this is bad how? The end result is every kid still needs SATs to go to the University anyway right? How they teach them to get those SAT scores is up to them.

Wasn't the Wrestling thing she ran started off as a very tiny business, just 13 people runned business to now a giant empire?

I deliberately say 5, because I *think* Kellyanne position is not considered a cabinet position although it is still a good one!

Actually SATs are becoming less and less important. Charter schools require very little accountability-teachers don't have to trained as teachers, funding is not monitored and where the money goes is not monitored (several schools have shut down with little to no notice due to running out of money), etc. There have been some successful charter schools, I have seen some of them myself, worked in one myself, but I can tell you there are huge differences in the charter between those and the majority of charter schools out there. And the research shows that charter schools don't live up to the hype.

Weren't you the one griping about women voting for Hillary just because she was a women? Now you are prepared to celebrate because he hired women, because they are women, you know nothing about their qualifications.

Having grown up in the Grand Rapids area, I spent my life watching the DeVos and VanAndel families use their Amway money to constantly manipulate pretty much everything that goes on in the city. Sometimes it worked out well. Other times, not so much. After a while, you just get sick and tired of even hearing their names. Personally, I'm skeptical about Betsy being the right person for education secretary. Her track record in Michigan isn't without it's errors.

He didn't hire women because they were women. He managed to find all these uber successful women and hire them.
He would not have hired them if they were not capable.

I can't say the same for Hillary. Lousy track record of producing results, yet people want to vote for her just because she is a woman and she literally ASKED people to vote for her because she is a woman. To me, any woman who needs to play the woman's card to get elected, has not much in credentials.

And precisely what is the lousy track record of these non results oriented bunch of leprous whores?

The gist of the article is, more charter schools, results for children from poorer family goes down. That's interesting. I actually still do not fully understand this whole common core, non-common core stuffs, or charter or public stuffs.

I mean, I assume public or common cores means following a strict government lead educational program?

While charter is almost like private school where they do things their way?

For my country, the worst schools are public, the best schools are also public.

So to be anti-charter is to micro-manage the school syllabus and how they run their education program and standardise it for everyone across the country?

While what she wants is not to interfere with individual schools and just let them do whatever and compete by trying to producing best results?

I still don't quite get exactly what are charter schools. And how are they different from Public? What makes a student perform poorer in charter schools?

Okay, it's the terminology that is very confusing.

Charter schools equals Private school? That's all it means right?

If that's all it means, it's a bit strange the whole charter schools push. Why can't public schools and charter schools co-exist together? So people have plenty of choices to choose public or charter?

Common core standards are state intitiatives, the federal government does not deal with common core or other state education.

States rights and all that. The micromanaging of the school syllabus and the wrecking of the original republican policy, initiative, funding, and laws that gave us public education is a nutsucker offensive.

I believe those who teach in charter schools are not in the Teacher's Union.

bounty44 -> RE: Already 5 amazing woman appointed by Trump (12/9/2016 8:15:39 AM)

greta--without getting into the difference between public schools, charter schools, private or parochial or even home schooling---the short of it is, pretty much anything that competes with public schools is a curse to the left.

on the whole, competition breeds excellence and in general, students who attend other than public schools have good success and outperform their public school counterparts.

at present, public schools enjoy a monopoly via force of government and tax dollars. everyone who owns property here pays school taxes for the public school system and then, if they have a kid they want to send to a different school, they have to not only still pay those school taxes, but they have to pay the extra tuition at the alternative school also. for most people, this is financially beyond their means.

the idea behind vouchers (which the comrades hate) is to take the tax dollars that would have "followed" any particular kid to a public school, and allow the parents to have those tax dollars to apply to a school of their choice.

which is a nice segue into saying, "choice" is okay to the left when we are talking about abortion, but not so okay when we are talking about schools.
