Call me naive, but I still get surprised when I see it, even on here. But I would rather be naive than a hypocrite.
Party has come before country for over 2 decades unfortunately.
I find such statements ridiculously absurd, as if people in each party don't see their principles and methods as being in keeping with whats best for their view of the country??
collectivists believe more government is better for the country. individualists believe less is. the former is typically democrat, the latter typically republican. you want them to hold hands and sing kumbaya?
pro life people believe abortion is murder and that being pro life is ultimately best for the country. pro abortion people think a woman's right to kill her baby is better for the country. you want the pro life people to compromise their position for "the good of the country?" they see no "good of the country" in that. exactly what is the "good of the country" in this instance?
and such statements go on and on and on...
there is no "humanity" distinct from our social/political/religious worldviews concerning it.
to act otherwise is yes, either naïve, dissembling, or to hold an undeveloped, willy-nilly view.
You find the statement absurd.
About a decade ago, a friend of mine was Speaker of the House in this state.
He didn't vote the way the way the chairman of the state Republican party indicated he wanted because he felt that his vote would be what was best for the folks who elected him.
The result?
He was booted from the party and had to run as an independent (won reelection by the way).
Does that sound like the statement was absurd?
How many people do you know who would vote for Satan if he had the right letter after his name? (D or R)
What was Priebus threatening people with if they didn't endorse Trump?
I find your statement that of someone who has closed eyes.
Seriously. if Trump still had a 'D' after his name and had beaten Hillary in the primary instead of the general(He was a lifelong Democrat before deciding to run and switched) the allegations of molestation, cuddling with the Russkies, etc, etc would have many of the VERY folks who venerate him right now calling for his jailing if not summary execution as his nickname would be "Bill Clinton with bad hair".
