I thought Mecca was their holy site.

Muslims believe that it is from Jerusalem that Mohamed visited Heaven. There's a HUGE Muslim Mosque on the site from where they believe he left Earth.

Mind: Christians claim the place where Jesus was crucified, also.

Maybe they should make Jerusalem it's own country like Vatican City and set up an independent government for it that everyone could agree on.

That has sort of been the case for quite a few years, now. There's "Jewish", "Muslim", and "Christian" sections of the city (really just the individual Holy sites).

The issue (as I've heard it presented) is: This resolution would prevent - for example - the ability for Jews to pray at the Wailing Wall without some form of "special permission".

Well if it were it's own country it wouldn't be divided up anymore but would be equally shared and governed by a government specially designed for that purpose... to ensure Jerusalem is respected as a Holy Place with equal access granted to everyone.

Until a Muslim was elected to lead such a nation and wouldn't allow "infidels" access to their Holy sites.

Your solution has merit in theory, but think it out to its logical conclusion.

Vatican City is Catholic.
It does not have different religions fighting for it.
I don't think it's the same thing. Muslims don't care about the Vatican City. It has no religious significant to them.

I *think* even Protestants do not care about the Vatican City.

I don't know what kind of "independent" council or ruler could there possibly be for Jerusalem. This person would have to be independent of all religion! Which for the Jews or the Muslims, to have some "unholy" person running their sacred site....., uhhh...., I don't know, they will never accept it.

I was thinking that it would not have one supreme leader but some kind of counsel that worked together so each faith was equally represented. The structure of the ruling government would need to be designed specifically for this purpose.

Muslims and Jews, working together, age old enemies.
I don't know. When it comes to religious sites. It's really about who has first rights to it! Both are claiming first rights! And want to be the one governing it!
It's interesting Christians don't really bother fighting with Jews about Jerusalem at all.
I think most Christians are happy to just let the Jews run it.

Obama back stabbed our best ally in the region? How is this news. That's like saying BREAKING NEWS, the sun came up in the East this morning and is expected to set in the West

Don't worry...don't worry. Obama has the situation in hand. Why else would he be able to vacation.

http://hotair.com/archives/2012/09/24/obama-sacked-consulate-and-dead-ambassador-bumps-in-the-road/

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/aleppo-american-decline-article-1.2920663

The fall of Aleppo just weeks before Barack Obama leaves office is a fitting stamp on his Middle East policy of retreat and withdrawal. The pitiable pictures from the devastated city showed the true cost of Obama’s abdication. For which he seems to have few regrets, however. In his end-of-year news conference, Obama defended U.S. inaction with his familiar false choice: it was either stand aside or order a massive Iraq-style ground invasion.

This is a transparent fiction designed to stifle debate. Five years ago, the popular uprising was ascendant. What kept a rough equilibrium was regime control of the skies. At that point, the U.S., at little risk and cost, could have declared Syria a no-fly zone, much as it did Iraqi Kurdistan for a dozen years after the Gulf War of 1991.

http://www.weeklystandard.com/obamas-disgraceful-and-harmful-legacy-on-israel/article/2006041#!

Damned if he does and...damned if he don't. What the fuck did any repub pres. do about Syria ? Nothing except invade the ME in two wars and bring chaos to the whole fucking mess. Obama went to congress for the power and money to engage in Syria..... and ??

“You either ought to change the regime or you ought to do nothing,” he said this week, (Rumsfeld 2013) as if he were giving fantasy football advice. Calling Obama a weak leader, he said: “Did he need to go to Congress? No. Presidents as commanders in chief have authority, but they have to behave like a commander in chief.” In other words, more swagger, bluster and blind certainty.

Liz Cheney, in a feckless run in Wyoming for the Senate highlighted by a sellout of her own lesbian sister’s right to marry, says she would vote against the resolution to use force in Syria. She’s made a career, such as it is, backing her father’s legacy of waterboarding, nation invading and pillorying supporters of diplomacy before war.

And Senator Marco Rubio, robust defender of the Iraq war, has just cast a no vote on taking action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Later this month, dozens of Republicans in Congress will make the same decision, simply because they hate Obama, and would oppose him if he declared Grandmother Appreciation Day.

The voice that stands out most by his silence, the one that grates with its public coyness, is Bush himself. He has refused to take a side in the Syrian conflict. The president, he said, “has a tough choice to make.” Beyond that, “I refuse to be roped in.”

This is cowardice on a grand scale. Having set in motion a doctrine that touches all corners of the earth and influences every leader with a say in how to approach tyrants who slaughter innocents, Bush retreats to his bathtub to paint.

Exactly. Israel bull dozes Palestinian homes, builds encirclements, cantonizes Palestinian land and eventually will occupy all of Judah and Samara as promised by Yahweh. The rabbis have willed it.

Why is Bibi upset by the recent UN resolution? After all, it is nothing he has not ignored before. In his own words he is peeved because "We are friends, and friends do not report friends to the Security Council." Or, words to that effect. Bibi is throwing a hissey fit. Poor baby. Friends? What has Israel ever done for the States but take our money and attack our ship? We really have no need of Israel as an ally.

It is a holy place on the Israeli side open to everyone. It's only on the Arab side where Jews are not allowed. Also, on the Arab side, only one gate of several are allowed to non-Jews.

Yes, they employ their god to take land away from people and to kill and maim. It is all there in the Torah. Justified blood-letting. Sanctified. All very holy and proper.

I can't speak for current leadership, but historically, Islam has been tolerant of other faiths in Islamic nations.

Oh, you can expect much more; it is only crap in your little boy brain.

Neo-zionists combine biblical fervor with nationalism and have an influence in the Knesset and especially with Bibi.

My regular Monday night poker crew is a gathering of two Italian-Americans, six Jewish-Americans, and one Israeli immigrant. As a rule we ban political discussions at the table but a few of the Jews were quite vocal in their condemnation of Obama's action last night even though they all voted for him twice. It is a toothless Resolution at the UNSC but Bibi is making full use of it to justify the continuing settler invasion of Samara. Obama acted from conscience and Bibi is successfully propagandizing the issue. More than 800,000 Palestinians were forced to flee their homes in 1948; now they are being pushed into a smaller corner. Israel has built roads in the Palestinian land; the Palestinians are prohibited access to those roads. In some cases the roads cut off villages from their farms. It is a punishing apartheid. One hundred twenty settlements, some large enough to qualify as small cities, 400,000 settlers, and a great deal of settler violence against Palestinians unreported in the western press. Shameful.

Have you read the old testament ? Their god time and time again says "I give you this land, all you have to do is kill everyone there". And what they did to the Egyptians is what got them enslaved. Why would the Pharoh even have to say "Never let a Hebrew sit on the throne of Egypt" ? if that is even true. How come they had enough gold to make a statue ? Did the slaves they traded have gold ? Did any other slaves in the world have gold ?

Read their own book for more detail.
