Do Americans still have to pay American taxes if they take dual citizenship ? We have Americans here who took Australian citizenship and, legal or not, they carry two passports.

The US and Eritrea are the only 2 countries in the whole fucking world that tax their citizens no matter where in the world they reside. Expat Americans dont pay US tax unless their income is over 85k (last i heard, might be a bit more now) but the problem is that they are required to file tax returns every year with the IRS even if they dont owe any US tax, that is were it can get costly cuz they need to hire an accountant that knows both their residence country tax system and the US tax system and the treaties between the 2 countries and someone with that kinda know-how isnt cheap.. Being an expat American has other disadvantages too tho, recent US laws have caused some banks around the world to refuse to open bank accounts for Americans.. the IRS wants to keep their eye on expats and nail em if they dont file/pay..

Imo, there is nothing wrong with carrying 2 (or more passports) as long as all the countries issuing those passports allow dual citizenship.. You want to get a passport from Monaco? ya gotta give up your citizenship, its a required condition of getting citizenship in Monaco.. if you dont they will cancel your Monaco passport..

Yep, I guess that's true Bama, although I have dual nationality but only pay Aussie taxes. I receive a small pension from the Brits and sweet bugger all from the French *smile*. I suppose that's understandable though, I would have needed to do another five years with them before I was granted citizenship

I'm sure that Canada would love to own the Silicon Valley and Hollywood... as well as Wall Street. It would be an enormous boon to the Canadian economy, which isn't the best since the Conservatives tied it to the oil fields.

I'm not sure what the Americans would think about higher taxes, but I've always thought that the west coast and New York, etc. had more in common with Canadians than with Southern Americans... I think they would get along much better.

Only if you make it here. What one might then owe Australia, is between you and them.

If an American works 330 days of a year outside the US, recently raised $500 to $101,300 of US income...is tax free. HERE

If your tax home was in a foreign country and you were outside the U.S. for at least 330 days in the full calendar year (January 1 - December 31, 2015), then your maximum exclusion for 2015 is $100,800. If you are married and both work, then you each get a maximum exclusion of $100,800 (it is not combined).

HERE

Trump would have to move out of Trump Towers, since it would no longer be part of the US.

That's a HUGE benefit right there.

Since Trump was born in Queens, do you think the new borders would cause a birther crisis?

I'm guessing . . .

umm.. Canada doesnt need to own Hollywood, Silicon Valley, etc, it has its own.. guess you have never heard of "Hollywood North"??? aka Vancouver, BC, some filming goes on in Ontario and other provinces too tho.. The TSE is our wall street.. and Microsoft and other tech, gaming & animation corps are located or have locations in Canada, many in Vancouver.. considering that Canada has only 10% of the population the US has, it does pretty damn good.. Trans Canada pipeline is going ahead now and will be completed by about 2018, so then Canadian oil will be sold/shipped to China and less to the US.. Canada has kept more of its middle class than the US has, which is why the US economy is still limping along.. as for higher taxes.. Canada's taxes arent much or any higher, especially considering health care is included (some provinces require small fees).. You really think that taxes on your wages are going down when Trump cuts corporate rates??? who do you think is gonna pay your national debt, especially with rising interest rates? and right now corporate tax rates are much lower in Canada which is why some US corps have moved operations there..
But hey, keep the myths alive, cuz that will keep more Americans in America and more Canadian jobs for Canadians..

" How America's middle class fell behind its Canadian neighbours
Canadians pay lower college tuition, cheaper medical care and less income inequality. What is the US doing wrong?
If you’re a proud member of America’s middle class, you may have been startled to learn last week that your after-tax income now makes you worse off than your Canadian neighbors to the north. They can now claim the title of the richest middle class on the planet.

But Canada doesn't have many Mexicans or blacks so it really neefs to import some from the USA so it can truly experience the multiculturalism it claims it wants so much.

I don't know why anyone would be upset about their country becoming bigger, especially when that expansion includes some of the most vital areas of the most powerful economy in the world. This is a scenario where parts of America would be joining Canada as opposed to Canada joining America-- it's not the same thing. It's not like you'd be getting a lot of useless manufacturing, empty desert or farmland... we're talking about the BEST parts of America in terms of culture, the economy, innovation, education... and it's also the people who love Canada the most. They voted for Obama because they wanted to be more like Canada! I seriously think it would be win-win, except for the whole war with the rest of America thing.

Sure, Canada has its own version of these things like every other country... but it's on a much smaller scale. A lot of Canadian actors, singers, etc.... still have to go to America to really 'make it big'. I get that Canadians are proud as hell but it's not like Canadian culture has the same degree of influence globally...

A pipeline for China isn't going to bring the price of oil back up, or make the tar sands oil any cheaper to produce. If Trump's idiotic plan to flood the market with oil just to create jobs actually happens, then I can't imagine oil is going to become any more precious any time soon.

And Americans don't have a federal tax on goods and services, which tends to be more noticeable for consumers than a corporate tax.

I think it would be a great country personally, and I would be really excited to live there.

Also, Trump's Wall St. cabinet would be a bunch of foreign interests.

Wonder if that would pose a problem?

You dont understand cuz you arent Canadian.. Americans think we are just like them but we arent, we are actually very different, have a different culture and different way of looking at things.. we arent ruled like you are by the 1% and big corporations.. they cant buy our politicians like they do in the US.. We have a very long history of not wanting to be part of the US, of not having our country changed into being just like the US.. We dont like the way you/your govt does many of the things you do.. we are opposite of you on many things... the invasion of Iraq, for instance, health care, and of course, remember, some Americans even think we are "commies"..
If we thought like Americans do then we would be all for this (just like you are), but we arent, we are very against it.. we know what would happen and we want no part of it.. we want our country to stay the way it is..

FYI, the primary reason for the pipeline isnt to make more money, its to gain access to other markets.. its to diversify away from the US..

But in this scenario, Canada wouldn't be part of the US, part of the US would be part of Canada... specifically the parts that actually want the US to be more like Canada. Ottawa would be the capital, and the new provinces would adopt Canadian laws, pay Canadian taxes and have access to Canadian public services.

The difference between the 'new' provinces and the rest of Canada could be considered similar to the difference between Alberta and Ontario, or BC and the Maritimes.

It would be sweet to just drive/fly to Toronto/Montreal or points further north on a whim without having to go through the mess customs has become (especially on the US side).
