What might it signal when a female begins to have 4-5 days of spotting in between her regular periods?  I used to have things thrown off a bit by birth control, but I've been off of anything like that since April.  I'm not on any other type of drug for any reason.  First noticed an alteration when my period came a week early in June and then I had a second week of spotting in the middle of the month.  How long can this strange schedule continue before I should worry?

I have no idea what is causing it.  But my advice would be to go see a doctor and ask, rather than consulting a random bunch of people online (wonderful tho many of them are) who might diagnose anything under the sun.  I'm not trying to be sarcastic, honestly.  That's my best advice.

There are a lot of things that can cause that...you really need to see a doctor to find out exactly what it is.

If you are on birth control pills, break through bleeding sometimes occurs, you may need the dosage adjusted.  Any irregular bleeding that continues needs to be looked at.

Speaking as one in the medical community, if you don't have a primary care doctor or a gynecologist (which I'm assuming you have at least one, having been on birth control recently) you should make an appointment to see them.  While it doesn't sound like an emergency (you didn't mention any pain of any sort or any other discomfort) it doesn't sound like your normal thing, so that warrants a visit to the doctor.  Good luck  :^)

After being on hormone birth control it can take up to two years for the breakthrough bleeding to stop. If its really heavy it could mean more serious things, Go see a doctor then.

If it doesn't settle itself over the next month, I'll look into seeing someone.  I haven't had an exam this year and with insurance and whatnot I'm not sure where I'd go right now anyway.  Thanks for the thoughts.

Some women spot between periods while they are ovulating, some women will also experience some minor cramping during this time as well.

There are some herbs and vitamins you can take that will actually help this. I'd have to go home and look to see what it is though hehe.

For me I've found there is a small time period between periods where my cervix is more sensitive and after intercourse there will be some minor spotting as well.

Coming off of hormone therapy can throw your body's natural cycle off balance for a while. You will have break thru spotting until your body manages to regulate itself again naturally.

Oh ya, if you have an IUD and the string is to long it can cause cervical erosion and that will cause some spotting as well.

Getting checked out is never a bad thing though.
