ORIGINAL: DaddySatyr quote:
ORIGINAL: MrRodgers You will only be a 'real patriot' once again (how many times did he say that yesterday ?) as long as you do what the right wants to feed the corp. elites, the MIC and go to war in the middle east. Already here as well as in the past if you didn't want war, or if you are in opposition and if you don't agree...you are a traitor. I don't think our newly minted president used the word "patriot" (or any of its forms) all that often, but be that as it may, the forty-year-long attack of the left, trying to make people believe that "patriotism" is a step on the road to nazism is one of the many reasons the Dumbocrats lost so many votes. You see, there's people in this country that don't believe patriotism to be a bad word. On top of that, they don't see it as being a bad mind set. Far too many of our citizens have fought under that flag for them to believe that serving one's country is a bad thing. Service to one's country would not be possible without some measure of patriotism. The Sith-ish demonization of that very word and ideal is going to cause the left to continue to lose ground (so, naturally, I support their efforts). Michael here are the corresponding sections from the "basis differences between left and right" I recently posted: Ideal Primary Identity of an American Left: world citizen Right: American citizen View of America Left: profoundly morally flawed; inferior to any number of European countries Right: greatest force for good among nations in world history American Exceptionalism Left: chauvinistic doctrine Right: historical reality America's Founding Fathers Left: rich white male slave owners Right: great men who founded the greatest society National Borders Left: a relic of the past Right: indispensable for national survival if those qualities on the right serve to make up, at least partially, a definition of patriotism, then its easy to see how whatever the left views as patriotism (if they embrace the concept at all), is not the same.
