tweakabelle -> A-Gen Sessions for the chop? (3/1/2017 11:56:10 PM)

Dear Leader Thump's Attorney-General Sessions' hold on his job is looking increasingly tenuous as evidence mounts that he may have lied during his confirmation hearings.

Sessions told Congress hearings that he had no contacts with Russian officials but it now turns out that he twice spoke with the Russian Ambassador. Today's Guardian reports:
"Donald Trump’s attorney general Jeff Sessions twice spoke with the Russian ambassador to the United States during the presidential campaign.
The Washington Post, citing justice department officials, first reported that Sessions met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak once in September 2016, when US intelligence officials were investigating Russian interference in the presidential election, and once in the summer of that year.

It was communications with Kislyak that led to the firing of Trump’s first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, in February.
A spokeswoman for Sessions confirmed that the meetings took place, but provided a statement from the attorney general saying they were not related to the election campaign.

“I never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign,” Sessions’ statement said. “I have no idea what this allegation is about. It is false.”

Sessions, a former senator from Alabama who was among Trump’s early and most vocal surrogates on the campaign trail, did not disclose the conversations when asked under oath during his Senate confirmation hearing in early 2017 about possible contacts between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.

Will Sessions be the latest Thump appointee to be forced to resign? How much more damage is the Russian connection going to cause Dear Leader Thump's White House? Is there a need for a special prosecutor to be appointed to get to the bottom of this contentious issue? Could it prove fatal to the Thump Presidency?

Was just about to thread :) Attorney General Jeff Sessions met Russia's ambassador twice during Donald Trump's presidential campaign last year, the US government has confirmed.

Mr Sessions, a senator at the time, told his January confirmation hearing that he had had no contacts with the Russians during the campaign.

He stressed on Wednesday he had "never met any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign".

The Democrats accused him of "lying under oath" and said he must resign.

They have also called on him to step aside from an investigation by the FBI - which he oversees as attorney general - into alleged Russian interference in the US election, including contacts with Russian officials by those involved in election campaigns.

The US intelligence community concluded that alleged Russian hacking of Democratic organisations was carried out to help Mr Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton.

I think to be on trumpaloons team you either need to be a lying fuk or stink of Russian – preferably both..guffaws.

The hillbilly lying fuk lied under oath - he has to go...of course that begs the question king of the lying fuks Comrade Trumpaloons also has to go.

He will probably weasel out because of the red portion.

Or, he might not be in the wrong (or has a plausible alibi).....

Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. before the presidential election last year, his spokeswoman confirmed, raising questions about whether he misled senators who inquired about the Trump campaign's ties to Moscow.

Sarah Isgur Flores told NBC News that Sessions did have a conversation with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak last year. The meeting was first reported by The Washington Post.

But she said "there was absolutely nothing misleading about his answer" because Sessions was asked during the hearing about "communications between Russia and the Trump campaign" and not about meetings he took as a member of the Armed Services Committee.

    [bold mine]

It's plausible (may or may not be true) that he was in contact because of his being part of the ASC.

tweakabelle -> RE: A-Gen Sessions for the chop? (3/2/2017 4:34:16 AM)

Let's hope for Sessions sake that no one was taping the meeting, and that the meeting notes, which I understand are SOP in these situations, agree with his claim that he didn't discuss "issues of the campaign". Am I correct in recalling that something along these lines was Flynn's first line of defence too? Flynn was sunk by 3rd party tapes of his phone calls with the Russians. I'm sure Sessions has his fingers crossed ....

While this line of defence for Sessions may be plausible, as you point out, is it credible? The Presidential election was the dominant political story in Washington all last year. Could a few political animals (of whatever hue) get together and fail to discuss it? If the conversations were unrelated to the election as Sessions insists, why did he choose to conceal the fact that he met with the Russians on two occasions? It couldn't be the case that he forgot they happened. Why did he feel the need to withhold this information when a simple upfront statement that he met with the Russians but did so in his capacity as a member of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, and only discussed matter relevant to the that committee, would have cleared the air.

The way this story is unfolding is consistent with the pattern of stories about Dear Leader Thump's Russian connections - they come out in dribs and drabs, leaked by disaffected public servants, and often contradicting initial denials from the concerned parties. There's already been a significant political corpse or two. There's no sign of the leaks ceasing or this story going away. Quite the opposite, it seems the political pressure for a special prosecutor is growing and growing.

Does anyone believe that we have heard the whole truth about the links between Dear Leader Thump's campaign and Russian officials?

He wont face perjury, too hard to prove. But he did Flynn and should face the same boot.

How does someone not know what something is about and at the same time know it is false?

The whole administration is going to go down in flames.
Sooner or later, even BoscoX won't be able to deny it.

He'll still constantly change the topic, though.

LOL... so deluded.

Even FOX has the decency to blame the Intelligence Community and drum up a lot of paranoia about the 'deep state'. You're parroting the stupidest president in history.

do you get the sense that the past few months here, its origins outside of here, have been characterized by a tremendous amount of liberals grasping at straws, making things up, wishful thinking, misreading things, etc?

mnottertail -> RE: A-Gen Sessions for the chop? (3/2/2017 9:07:20 AM)

No, as usual, it is nutsuckers grasping at straws, making things up, wishful thinking, misreading things, felchgobbling, etc.

It aint a sense, a hysterical emotion that nutsuckers shit their pants over, it is a reality.

These people are being fired for lies, inability to pass security checks, and more such unAmerican activities.

President Trump's Russia problems just got a whole lot worse.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice in 2016, according to The Washington Post, conversations that run directly counter to Sessions's assertions during his confirmation hearing to be the nation's top cop.

In that Judiciary Committee hearing Jan. 1o, Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) asked Sessions whether he was aware of any contacts between Trump campaign officials and Russian intelligence officials. “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians,” Sessions replied.

It does not take a political genius to understand how big a problem this is for Sessions, Trump and congressional Republicans more broadly. (Sessions's response — I talked to a lot people! — isn't going to cut it.)

Before this report, most congressional Republicans were resistant to the idea of appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the contacts between Russia and Trump campaign officials and surrogates — insisting that the ongoing FBI investigation and congressional committees looking into the issue were more than enough.

That's going to become an untenable position for Republicans — starting with House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — in light of this new information about Sessions. Not only is there a very serious question about whether Sessions misled — purposely or accidentally — his colleagues while under oath, but this is also the latest incident involving unanswered questions about the ties among Trump, his top advisers and Russia.

try a cogent response sometime mnottertroll.

the overwhelming amount of threads and posts from you and your comrades have been pie in the sky, chicken little, boy who cried wolf, hyperventilating, hysteria.

its like the French soldiers in holy grail taunting their English counterparts. "so you thought you could fool us French folks with your silly knees bent running around."

most of you are an embarrassment to reason.

or here, given how you've misrepresented my point below, lemme leave you with this instead:

If you were giving us any indication that you had been paying attention to the news instead of the inside of your colon, you might not be coming off as being in deep denial... but since that isn't the case, we can all just assume your default post will always be (insert willfully clueless response/ad hominem here) and save you the trouble of typing it out.

So whatever, obviously you're right-- none of the stories in the mainstream news have actually been happening, and we should all just relax and support everything Trump says and does, because it's all perfectly normal.
