Alumbrado -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 3:37:05 AM)

Done both on more than one occasion, and I much prefer the bustle of a large city. (Not the 'burbs, actual urban life).

irishbynature -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 4:41:30 AM)

Somewhere in between--I've lived both in the city and in a rural setting. I like the quiet but don't want my entertainment to be the cows across the way. The burbs are more my speed[:D]

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 4:53:04 AM)

My favorite place to live has been the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire.  Towns are small and people are friendly without being nosy, and there are large cities within a few hours.  It's ideal.

Hohoho -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 5:04:23 AM)

Having spent the last 15years on this pretty mountaintop, I am ready to move to somewhere near an interstate to get me anywhere faster.....just a bit closer to a metropolitan area..OR just find a Dom with a helicopter. That would work, too.

subedana -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 5:16:24 AM)

Give me the country any day of the week. There's alot to be said for quiet and privacy.

juliaoceania -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 5:48:53 AM)

Right now Im starting to think anywhere he is.. it doesn't matter as long as I am with the people I enjoy and want to be with. The rest is just window dressing.

In an old neighbourhood of a city that is old. One with a variety of ethnic communities. With a river that runs to the oceanside of the city. But the location is too hemmed in by the sea and the mountains to have let it sprawl into nondescript suburbs. A rich culture of arts and activities. People friendly.

And I would own a nice little sailboat.

That is exactly like where my Daddy just moved and it is heavenly, in fact I am going to help him unpack tomorrow... I can't wait to sit in front of his window and gaze at the ocean, and he lives a couple of miles from a lighthouse that we can walk to every morning

On edit, there is no river though...smiles, but he lives right on the edge of the city near a point that overlooks a part of the harbor where the ships are towed in and out by tugboats, so we get a view of ships sailing in and out of port without the cranes in the way. There is no cross traffic there, and it is extremely quiet. I am soooo looking forward to being there.

SirKenin -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 6:49:31 AM)

I like it somewhere right in between.

sub4hire -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 7:41:28 AM)

I'd choose quiet, I can make my own noise with good friends if I want to.

philosophy -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 8:03:57 AM)

despite the urban allure of being able to phone for pizza.......at least in the country you get to breathe real air all day........

Where would prefer to live?
  1. Somewhere buzzing with all types of fantacy diversions and brimming with night life?
  2. Somewhere quiet, few people and no noisy night life?

Somewhere quiet, with very few people around, and a very slow pace of living.

LaTigresse -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 10:44:37 AM)

Okay call me crazy but here is my answer. Ideally........I would have a home in both. I love love LOVE living in the country with no visible sites or sounds of other people except the jet trails overhead. Nature is just pure heaven for me. BUT I also adore being in a historical centre of a culturally rich old city also. Great architecture, art, restaurants, theatre.......heaven in its own way. Now, all I need is a job that will pay for it all!............[:D]

The place I hate the most........suburbia. Cringing at the very idea.

As someone living in one right now because I wanted to go to a university nearby, I have to agree 100%, I grew up in the Sierras and lived there for a very long time, I kinda prefer either mountains or urban,.. I loathe the suburbs with strip malls and a franchise restaurant on every corner.

LaTigresse -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 11:33:36 AM)

julia........my deepest sympathies. I have been there and was so miserable I cannot even begin to explain. I got so numb and miserable I wouldn't even realize how much I hated it until I found a reason to leave the city. The further away I would drive, more deeply into the country it was just a total relaxing...body, spirit and soul. When I found my little farm on the hill it just felt so perfect and it has been exactly what I needed for the time I have been there. Who knows where life will take me in the future but I know I will always have to have that balance.

windchymes -> RE: Where would prefer to live? (7/26/2006 1:49:45 PM)

Right where I am now.....small friendly coastline towns, two blocks from the Delaware Bay, and 4 miles from the ocean.  Seagulls poop on my car, and it's okay.  At night, I smell the salt air, see ALL the stars and can hear the waves crashing on the shore at if the seas are stormy.

I choose Door Number 2!!  Get me outta this city!  I'll take an hour drive to get to a city.  Gimme the crickets and nightjars when the moon goes down.  Wait, what are those things in the sky?  Stars!  No city = no night-time light pollution.  You can actually see stars!

Greeting
where would like to live, that is easy, somewhere cool, close to the ocean, where there is quite and peace and one can get lost in the fanstay of their dreams. Also for me, lots of lands where my children and grandchildern can be close to me
take care and be safe
