WickedsDesire -> Britain Declares war on Spanish jackals (4/2/2017 7:53:12 AM)

Former Conservative Party leader Lord mad fuk Howard invokes the Falklands War amid the continuing row over Brexit and Gibraltar.

Speaking on the BBC's Sunday Politics, he urged Theresa May to "show the same resolve" as Margaret Thatcher in defending Gibraltar's interests.

A senior Tory has been criticised for saying Theresa May would show the same support for Gibraltar as Margaret Thatcher did for the Falklands.

Lord Howard told the BBC Mrs May would show the same "resolve" as Mrs Thatcher did over the 1982 conflict.

The Lib Dems said he was "sabre-rattling", while Labour asked how such "diplomacy" would help Brexit talks.

Mrs May said the UK was "steadfastly committed" to Gibraltar, after the EU raised it ahead of Brexit talks.

In its draft negotiating guidelines, published last week, the EU said decisions affecting Gibraltar - a British territory - would be run past the Spanish government.

Speaking on BBC One's Sunday Politics, Lord Howard said that 35 years ago, "another woman prime minister sent a taskforce halfway across the world to protect another small group of British people against another Spanish-speaking country.

"And I'm absolutely clear that our current woman prime minister will show the same resolve in relation to Gibraltar as he predecessor did."

I didn't know the Barbary apes were British citizens. Obviously the great undead is worried about his party losing the monkey vote if Gibraltar doesn't stay part of Britain when we leave the EU.

Sorry I was looking out some clips there....for a edit

In its draft negotiating guidelines, published last week, the EU said decisions affecting Gibraltar - a British territory - would be run past the Spanish government. Strange statement - not sure why that doesn't apply to the Scottish Government too guffaws

So far Spain has neither invaded Gibraltar nor seems to plan anything like that in the foreseeable future

However the majority of workers in Gibraltar are Spanish and commute across the rock border daily.

Similar passages about the present and future state of inner-Irish border exist already with the Republic, so the Spanish urge to have a say in border regulations concerning Gibraltar has a precedent.

Imho it is another proof that many Tories still have not the slightest clue what Brexit really means.

And yes wd - all these affairs might be another precedent to what the results of a maybe future English-Scottish border might be like.

You know, for I have told you, I am never quite 100% about you...but if you are not in the UK, but live within the EU whats your take on all this?

I enjoyed the ERASMUS privilege for a year in the UK, and have EU citizen friends living in the UK and Ireland as well as British expat friends living here.

My friends whose life plans are used as bargaining chips are my first concern. The spreading disease of poiticians' folly another.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Britain Declares war on Spanish jackals (4/2/2017 10:32:26 AM)

The title is hugely misleading.

The Brits have NOT declared war on anyone.
They've only said that they stand by Gibraltar *if* the Spanish stir up shit.

Time to take your meds again WD.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Britain Declares war on Spanish jackals (4/2/2017 11:15:11 AM)

How slow are you? I cannot even have you declared a thicko for fear of insulting completely clueless cunt entities with your kindred’s abject brain poverty...a watered down virulent version perhaps, nay, an arse haunter perhaps of 4th degree burn or a splatterer of a chaotic cacophony of foulness, known as complete wretch, and englphish whiff-pong….a nasal scorcher for sure.

Your impressive density aside English jackal I thought you lot declared war on Europe anyway for raping your female-mutt jackals, and taking all your money - granted in debt form.

Fuk you are pretty dim arnt you…not American thick but you are just about there..Now return to your englanshire jackal corner and shit your pants…like I give a fuk to complete non entities - that is your, and your kinds worth to me. Something of shame that fouls itself in a dark corner and should be ignored, forevermore.

Take a pause and look at some map: the same situation between Spain and Gibraltar (appendix of Spanish landmass ...) exists already between Morocco and Ceuta+Mellilla (appendices of Moroccan landmass)

then look at some pictures of border building designs there ... do you want something like that around Gibraltar border? NI-Eire border? along River Tweed maybe?

THAT is (just one of the smaller details) what Brexit is about.

Ask your Tory MPs what they think about it.

FR

It would all be a little bit awkward. And as the Telegraph's Michael Deacon pointed out, should Britain declare war on Spain, Britain would be treaty-bound to protect its Nato ally - i.e. Spain - and declare war on itself.

Or the UK could leave Nato.

To hell with it: the UK should leave Earth. Who needs Johnny Foreigner for anything, anyway? Yep, Farage and UKIP just weren't radical enough.

Neither does the Spanish threat to England by way of Ireland exist to England today as might have been the case when that armada sailed 400 years ago, but that hasn't stopped their (Engles) ongoing terrorism and incessant antagonism of that country (Ireland) from then to now.

Edwird -> RE: Britain Declares war on Spanish jackals (4/2/2017 9:08:17 PM)

Oh. and while we're at it;

How about people quit bitching about those voting for Brexit and for Trump and in fact quit avoiding the issue and then ask opinion of those who stayed away in droves in both cases.

Heaven forbid you might actually learn something.

blnymph -> RE: Britain Declares war on Spanish jackals (4/3/2017 4:09:58 AM)

I do not not see anyone bitching about voters (or non-voters) for or against Brexit (nor Turmp - for once all this is not about Trump ...)

The Gibraltar issue is not a sovereignty issue; there has has been a referendum not so long ago in Gibraltar with a clear pro-UK majority and nobody (to my knowledge) challenged that. Forthcoming is a border issue about an open or shut border, or how to keep it as open as possible for thousands of commuters, btw in the interest of Gibraltar economy because even as an UK territory Gibraltar economy is nonetheless very dependant on Spain.

Almost the same situation in Ireland: Even unionists agree that both parts of Ireland benefitted from the open border and it was vital for the peace process there. After the Good Friday agreement, however, both governments have to cooperate on that issue (something the EU paragraph on Gibraltar implies too).

Brexit has implications and consequences for everybody there. The Tories are silent about it - BJ seems to have not yet realised it even.

Their present postion (so they say) is a trade union with free movement of goods but no free movement of citizens.
They sell it to the public now as a kind of EFTA member status like Norway, Iceland, Switzerland. BUT: there is no limitation of movement of citizens between EU and EFTA - it is part of the EU-EFTA treaties. A future EFTA Britain could not limit free movement of citizens.

A kind of trade "union" like the Tories want it is only possible on the basis of the World Trade Organisation agreements. Nothing new. The only new thing would be the Tories declaring that simple fact publicly. They haven't so far.

Most of these treaties to my knowledge have been negotiated, agreed on and signed by Tory governents over the past decades btw. They should know what's in there.
No doubt blaming Brussels for it is easier and more popular of course. [;)]

WickedsDesire -> RE: Britain Declares war on Spanish jackals (4/3/2017 12:36:31 PM)

And the news paper headlines were what today? "WAR" Brexit and Gibraltar: May laughs off Spain 'war' talk etc

My point was what mad fuk brings up the Falklands and compares it too Gibraltar - anyway I though we sank the belgrano https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARA_General_Belgrano#Controversy_over_the_sinking like a bunch of cowardly UK jackals

Gibraltar ive never been. But those with tunnel vision will not have a clue what I am on about

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and headland, on Spain's south coast. It’s dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 426m-high limestone ridge. First settled by the Moors in the Middle Ages and later ruled by Spain, the outpost was ceded to the British in 1713

But who is Ruling it? The EU, Spain or the UK English jackals
