I am amazed at how people are willing to watch the same movie over and over.
How many times can we watch someone learn how to be a hero and save (love interest/best friend/the world) from a villain who wants (revenge/world domination/the apocalypse)?

The exact same movie again, only my favourite romance I would watch it over and over again. Like Moulin Rouge or something, but that's also because it's a musical and I enjoy the musical performances too.

But superhero movies. Most of them, once is enough. No desire to watch again.

Although I will always watch the new versions. Mainly because, like for example, Old Batman joker is different from New Batman Joker. Changes in villain appearances is a good reason to watch it. And I am really digging the Suicide Squad Joker, except, unfortunately, they Axed him, sad sad.

I hated the new spiderman though. And now it's rebooting again. And I will just watch it to see if it's better than the old.

LP: I Haven't seen GOTG 2 yet, so I can't comment on that one.
As for the DC stuff, did you know that Wonder Woman was designed by a psychologist (very definitely a proto-feminist and who was probably into femdom) specifically as a positive role model for girls?
I'm not entirely fond of a grimdark Superman myself, but I still thought Man Of Steel was a pretty good film, which got pretty much everything else right. It's pretty unfair to compare anybody else playing that role to Christopher Reeve, but Henry Carvill did a very good job indeed.

Man, you gotta go see it! I had so much fun all through the film!

I refuse to give business to any establishment that charges 10 bucks for a bucket of popcorn I can make myself for a $1.50.

Because I always miss something, usually that makes some things clearer than the first time I watched it.
I have masses numbers of movies and tv shows Ive watched more than once, even three times, I blame it on chitty chitty bang bang, grease, Aliens, Star trek TOS.
I went to see Grease more times than is normal even for a 14 year old girl crushing on jeff conaway.

I do the same with books.
yeah but its usually not a bad thing. for me at least:)

Oh I get why people would watch a quality film over and over... but this is more like selling people the same movie comprised of tired, old ideas over and over with only a superficial changes being made.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Marvel Productions takes a left turn into... (5/15/2017 2:50:10 AM)

The current season of Arrow is the poorest.

Still I do find many of these tv shows episodes 42 minutes worth, several per season, fit a whole movie 8/10-10/10 worth.

And yet all these superhero type movies ar 2-4/10 for me if that. And laden with cluttered garbage CGI and badies, monsters, machines, several hundred feet high.

Well hopefully wonder women wont disappoint.

Guardians not seen part 2 yet. But part one wasn’t bad. But remember I grew up with the beano and dandy so the original storylines-changes etc are lost on me

The only bit I like of that last batman movie was wonder women – the rest was just garbage. The new movie looks garbage and why not use the Flash in it he has made that part his own.

Hmm gal gadot or lynda carter - tricky

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VxQHdDDCO4 and this scene is typical of just about all these movies nowadays :(

LOL yes I remember the same being said 20-30 odd years ago, with all the halloweeen movies, Freddy movies and other assorted killers on a rampage.
what ten halloween movies, 12 Friday the 13th,
five elm street movies, Omen was 7?
franchises...meh, altho yes Ive seen them all at least once.
"Quality" in movies is so subjective.
I do take a great pleasure in bad movies too,

Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Hemsworth, that's enough eye candy right there to justify multiple Marvel films for me [:D]

Needles

WickedsDesire -> RE: Marvel Productions takes a left turn into... (5/15/2017 8:01:19 AM)

Agreed very poor - I am well behind with that: at episode 11 or something. But up to date with flash and legends, and i still have all of super girl to watch bar the cross over episodes

Vandal Savage killing all Central City

Team Arrow, The Flash and The Hawks vs Vandal Savage

Ironically star trek was on last night on Film 4 and whilst I almost liked it it was wasted with the cliff scene, the 200 foot monster, and the romulan and Kirk leaping 100 feet between shelves

Again? If they thought the reboot didn't work, couldn't they just ignore it bring back Toby McGuire?

WickedsDesire -> RE: Marvel Productions takes a left turn into... (5/15/2017 8:51:50 AM)

Toby was the best and the reboot of almost that exact story line they managed to fuk even that up. So in less than twenty years this is the third reboot?

Also getting passes are Winter soldier and Christian bale, the first iron man, ant man ( I know) and guardians, oh and Toby. But other than that they have all been dreadful 2/10 stuff and there are far too many to mention – they are completely shite

Now, you take a masterpiece like the Day the earth still 1951

1951 10 outa 10

2008 complete shit out of 10

Christ they made GORT 100 foot tall in that nano technology aside

I thought the biggest problem with the first reboot film (didn't watch the second one) was that it didn't do enough to separate out Peter and his alter ego's behaviour. Whatever you can say against the Raimi films (I rather liked the jazz club scene in three, myself, and am well aware that I'm probably alone in this thread about that) McGuire absolutely nailed that, whereas Andrew Garfield comes across as much the same sarcastic wiseass whether he's in costume or not. That aside, there's plenty of good stuff in the reboot, that did spoil it for me a bit, which is a shame, as they did a really good job of making the Lizard into a serious menace and Martin Sheen made a perfect Uncle Ben.

Jeff: you do know that the original version of Watchmen was written using the '60s Charlton characters (the rights to whom DC had just acquired at the time), and Moore's editor editor, who had started his comics career as a writer at Charlton insisted on Moore changing them to lookalikes, right? For some reason he thought introducing those characters to the DCU in a story that ended with The Question (Rorschach) and Peacemaker (The Comedian) dead, and Captain Atom (Doctor Manhattan) fleeing the planet might rather trash the property for further use.

Well, yes, but those are sequels, not a 'universe'... and there weren't 4 or 5 of them every year.
I wouldn't say that the Marvel movies are 'bad'... they're just redundant.

I definitely prefer a low budget movie where it looks like the people making it are having a blast to a big budget product that hits all the right beats because it's designed to make money.

MaddMimm -> RE: Marvel Productions takes a left turn into... (5/18/2017 11:06:15 PM)

I loved Dr. Strange. It wasn't the original story, but neither are the Guardians of the Galaxy line, Lord of the Rings & Hobbit, or anything else that's done well in the last 20 years or so. I guess I've come to accept that the remakes, reboots, and rewriting of original literary materials just goes a little further in exposing the next generations to the original materials. My kids almost always said, Okay, so what was this supposed to be like? Or Was the old one this good? It actually gave me many opportunities to show them that production quality and effects aren't always where you find the story.
