They are going to wear themselves out knocking their heads against a wall with this. They have nothing.

Well the point is to determine that. The Administration's continual attempts to squash any investigation certainly create the appearance there's something, whether there is or not.

Normally I would tend to agree with this assessment....

However,

In February President Trump tried to get Comey to stop the investigation into Flynn and the Russians.
Among the reasons for firing Comey that came out after the memo, the Flynn investigation and the Russian thing were mentioned.
The one man that should have had zero to say about Comey being fired, Sessions, had recused himself and turned over operations to the assistant AG, but was consulted about firing Comey.

Of course, the assistant AG saying some month's ago he would not step in unless it appeared that there were efforts to hamper the investigation gets wind that President Trump tried to shut down the investigation and suddenly a special prosecutor is appointed?

Of course, there is one curious thing, a top GOP hardliner made the statement that he knows Flynn well enough to know the man is a stand up guy, he wont lie to save his own skin, and everyone that knows Flynn agrees or seems to agree on this.

His next statement on cnn tonight was most telling, and considering he was involved in the Iran Contra special prosecutors investigation, makes me wonder, "He might have been used."

When asked what he meant, his answer was simple, "He might have been doing what he was told to do."

Now, if this is the case, and there turns out to be some serious wrong doing and illegal activities, even if President Trump was not involved, the President is going down with all the people who were involved, simply because his actions since the election are screaming cover up.

And I said this months ago on this board.

No administration has had this many screw ups and had to do this much damage control in all my memory.
...or this fast. It's just coming up on five months in office!

It is almost as if the GOP got him nominated simply because he could beat Hillary and no one else could.
Not "almost." That's exactly why.

If he goes down, that leaves his VP in the driver's seat, a man that is far more qualified to hold the office than Trump, but could not have beaten Hillary.

And when you have Erick Erickson saying Trump may have messed up with the release of the intelligence to the Russians and it may be worse than any of us know, a man who sang Trump's praises throughout the campaign, it begins to look like the GOP is going to throw Trump under the bus, the train and off a pier with cement loafers.

They aren't anywhere close to removing him at this point. They're going to double down on secrecy, coverup, obfuscation, lies and "alternative facts."

Only if the base starts screaming and can't be controlled will they consider acting.

I've never known anything remotely like this in all my life and yet it is still continuing

A lying fuk in office - now there is your problem - and a deluded imbecile to boot - this is not a good mix. Let alone for Premier of Any Country

He just pulls down his pantaloons and diarrhoea everywhere; then he goes back to the same pool and does it time and time again - sift yourself through that arse carnage.

Now he ran on that very card - so I am un surprised.
The history books will be talking about this for ever more - well as long as he doesn't have them all burned...hes is doing that with the press, before and after, so it was not an absurd thing for me to say.

I am impressed with Rosenstein and am coming to respect him as an honest civil servant. It is just another sign of total dysfunction and a leaderless white house when the President is surprised that his own justice department, without pressure from leading Republican congressmen, appoints a special prosecutor to investigate him.

I think this is the result of President Trump trying to pin the firing of the FBI Director on Rosenstein... if pissed him off and this is payback.

If he were black, the FBI director would not have been fired for getting too close and there would have long since been any number of congressional comm. investigating all of this.

WASHINGTON ― Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller to serve as special prosecutor overseeing the investigation into Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election.

In a statement, Rosenstein stressed that his decision “is not a finding that crimes have been committed or that any prosecution is warranted.” But he said he’d determined “based upon the unique circumstances, the public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command.”

In an order dated May 17, Rosenstein wrote Mueller, as special counsel, will conduct an investigation into “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump,” along with “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”

Trump in deeper doo doo ???

Not to put too fine of a point on this but Mueller will not be a Special Prosecutor as under the statute of the OIC (Office of Independent Counsel) that expired after the Clinton deal.

He will be a FBI special investigator, something different at least by statute.

Thank you. I understand that the old Special Prosecutor law was replaced in 1999. Mueller will be Special Independent Counsel, I believe.

I suspect you are right. Trump's "buck stops at Rosenstein" contributed a great deal, but give Rosenstein credit, his action went beyond personal grievance with the president, I think.

His attempt to reduce the status of the Press is a ploy typically found in the history of any totalitarian state. Trump is going through the prescribed motions but he is hardly bright enough to carry off the role of a dictator, although he does seem to confuse the office of president with that of emperor.
The independent press can be an important part of checks and balances in a democracy. They failed us in Vietnam and in Iraq initially, but they seem to be doing their part here.

I agree, Wicked, the man's lack of understanding of governing as he has displayed it so far is a marvel to behold.

Yeah, that seems to be the playbook from 1973. This is an interesting time in our history.

Dont look at me Americans are fuking idiots and English jackals a close second, and I am all for burning both lands to the ground.

On a more serious note they needed a Special prosecutor, an untouchable (well less you are a 13 year old kid), from the very beginning. :(

That means a law man of undoubted integrity, a non-partisan referee. Isn't the procurator-fiscal free of political interference in Scotland? Not sure how similar it is but do you not require an independent referee at law from time to time? Or do you just borrow shillelaghs from the Irish and set upon one another in the glen?

They pick a man to investigate Comey's firing who was at least implied to be responsible.
Doesn't thatseem just a little odd to you?

Has it occured to you that your historical prism ignores everthing but race or at least puts everything else in the back seat.

Not at all... the investigation will only lead there if Trump is found to be involved in the Russian attempt to influence the election or to protect his friends. Then the firing will be another nail in Trump's coffin. Until then Comey's firing needs no investigation.

Bama I do not know your position... are you against a special prosecutor? Myself I think it is vital for Trump to get out from under this cloud of Russian collusion and the special prosecutor is the only way this will happen... Lets get going and get it over with so the American people can learn the truth and our government can get back to its business. All this crap is TRUMP"S fault... if he had supported the investigation from the beginning it would just be a side note by now.... done and over with.
