I am truly sorry to hear about this. I always enjoyed reading your stories about Kera, and I could tell how attached you were to her. I am glad to hear that Blu is safe. quote:
ORIGINAL: jlf1961 He will also help put a jump barrier on the fence which means adding another 3 foot high section of fencing angled back toward the yard. While he says that is not actually required, he feels it will aliviate some of my concerns since we still have not figured out how in the hell they got out in the first place. The gate is padlocked, they cant dig under the fence, and there are no holes in the fence anywhere. And while blue might be able to force his way through the grid of the hog wire, kera was way to large to attempt it, she could not even get more than her nose through the squares. This is a good idea, and can resolve what is very possibly what aided Kera and Blu's escapes in the first place. I used to have a lab that always got out of our fenced yard, which had 4 feet tall chainlink. I finally built a pen with 8 feet tall chainlink, and was stunned when within 5 minutes of putting him in it, he was at the front door barking. When I took him back out to the pen and watched to see what happened, I was amazed to see him literally put paw over paw and climb over and out of the pen. I searched around on the internet and saw this as a solution, and did it will chickenwire, only about a foot wide. It did the trick. No more climbing out. He was able to climb to the top of the fence, but he couldn't maneuver backwards then over to get past the chickenwire. Between him and his sister (who climbed trees) I learned a lot about animal's abilities that I had been previously unaware of, and how there is almost no stopping a dog determined to get out. That was several years ago. He is gone now, and I still miss him a lot. So I will be thinking about you and Kera. She always sounded like an amazing companion.
