How difficult is it to hack into someone's phone and read the text messages they are sending to other people from your own phone?

I mean the US government can help you. How about you talk to the person you'd like to hack about it instead?

Not that hard if you have undisturbed access to the phone. Parents do this to their kids' phones all the time.
If you think your phone has been compromised, take it in for service. Tell them to keep records of any keylogger programs to use in prosecuting the person who did this. Make sure you change the password.

I've known of separated couples where this happened.

Cell phone cloning is possible but it is not as easy as the movies would have you believe. For CDMA phone all one needs to know is you PIN and ESN number and a blank phone they can program. For GSM phone, you need to clone the SIM card which is much harder. So while it can be done it is not a simple process.

Thanks.... actually I was asking because a friend of mine thinks his old gf is somehow reading his texts with other people. She definitely would have had undisturbed access to his phone a d knows his PIN. He asked I knew if it was possible and how difficult it was.

All he needs to do is reboot the phone to factory settings. Any spyware installed should be removed.

You clone the SIM card of theirs and you can put in a phone and get all their texts at the same time they do. Getting an archive of past texts requires getting into the deep darks of the service provider's computers or physically getting your hands on their cellphone to get a memory dump.

The cloning doesn't require adding software to their phone but spoofing the provider as to the ID of your phone being the same as theirs so it will get all calls and texts alongside their phone.

BTW, spoofing a phone is a federal crime.

He should check for background apps, you can get "secret" apps that log texts and call logs etc and allow someone remote access. One of those things suspicious parents can get to keep tabs on their kids.
