ORIGINAL: Greta75 FR BTW MR Longwayhome! Your disgusting UK Sharia COURTS that you support, I remembered you even claim that sharia court treats women fairer in divorce than civil courts: http://www.islamic-sharia.org/talaq/ Due to the financial responsibilities which he has to bear, the right to divorce in Islam is primarily given to the husband. A Muslim who wishes to divorce his wife is therefore advised – in the first instance – to ask for an arbitration meeting, arranged by elders of the couple so that a reconciliation may be reached. If such efforts fail and the man sincerely thinks he cannot live a harmonious life with his wife, he may divorce her either verbally or in writing. In both cases, it is recommended for there to be two witnesses present on the occasion of the pronouncement of such a divorce. This makes me fucking angry that a western country supports and allows this type of bullshit! This place is definitely in the UK, look at it's address: THE ISLAMIC SHARIA COUNCIL 34 FRANCIS ROAD LEYTON LONDON E10 6PW Fuck protecting Islam! This is bullshit! It's like lalalala, let's hold hands and all Muslims are innocent! They don't abuse women, lalalalala! Those who speak against them are the evil ones! And lalalala, their sharia courts oppressing the fuck out of women. And this website claims that "The Council’s divorce certificates are increasingly recognized in Muslim countries and in embassies of Muslim-majority countries as valid. English family court judges and solicitors are also treating them as valid religious certificates." That's special Greta. I haven't even posted on this thread, and only read it a couple of minutes ago, but to avoid misrepresentation of my views I can point you to some relevant responses I have made. http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=5042436 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=5036972 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=5036607 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=5026873 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=5026890 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=5004786 http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4979933 Despite your fantasies, I do not support Sharia Law or Sharia Courts. The evidence is plain to see in what I have written. Sharia law has no legal standing in the UK, nor is it ever likely to have any legal standing, and there is active review of mediation offered by Imams to ensure that they are not acting in a discriminatory manner. In other words UK law comes first and last, and is more important than cultural sensitivity. You also have no understanding of English law (just one of the three law systems we have in the UK). Treating something as a "valid religious certificate" only means accepting it as proof of the end of the relationship. English courts, unlike their Scottish counterparts, tend to treat cohabitation quite differently to marriage when it comes to the financial settlement of a relationship breakdown. Without a civil marriage certificate any religious marriage or divorce certificate which originates in the UK has no formal legal standing. If the certificate comes from a country where such a religious document is also a legal one, the UK Courts will treat it as such, in common with Courts from any other country, including your own Greta. I have made it clear that I do not think that religious leaders from any faith should be involved in offering mediation because I am a secularist from a political point of view, nor do I agree with many of the teachings of Islam. Where I differ from you is that I don't have a hysterical, xenophobic hatred of everything Muslim and all people who identify themselves as Muslims. I have no fear of Sharia Law becoming the basis of the UK legal system because it just isn't happening. It's a moral panic stirred up by anti-Muslims, not based in fact.
