I've always thought that human nature was pretty fluid and could go either way... it's not really difficult to sense whether someone is stronger or weaker than we are. Our desires pretty much start there and then either grow or diminish as we get to know someone. Usually reality eventually exposes things as being much more complicated, which tends to deflate the dynamic quite a bit.

I think people play all sorts of tricks on themselves to convince themselves that they 'are' a certain way, but a lot of the time we're just trying to change ourselves to fit our fleeting desires because we keep wanting to feel what we felt when we didn't know any better.

Am I unusual? Those of you who haven't found someone do you have this gnawing feeling inside you that demands to be satisfied?

I will say that everyone has there reasons of why they do things. Each person's motivation is different.

I do at times crave to submit as you say. My craving and desire is driven by the desire for me to give up control to someone else. You could say it is a form of stress relief for me. My typical day usually has people constantly coming to me to have their problems solved. The typical walk from my desk to the coffee machine (about 200 feet) and I get stopped at least 5 times to be asked how to solve a particular problem. And it really never lets up all day long. Some are minor problems, some are actually emergencies and everything in between. Five, six, sometimes seven days a week of relentless, 10 to 12 hours days, of "what are we going to do?".

So, I relish the chance to walk away from all that. Walk away and give up control to another. Give complete control, no decisions to make, no interruptions to the task at hand, no distractions. A chance to slow down and fully enjoy the moment. So yes, I do crave to submit. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to completely let go and enjoy the other side of things :)
