And yea, usually greeting is just saying, 'Hey', 'Hello', just a wave and a smile. That's it.

Like in the US, you mean.

I'm now convinced that you are just making shit up, like you always do.

There is no American or Canadian or Britain who says "How are you?" as first communication upon meeting, every single day.

The question "How are you?" usually comes only after one or several other standard greetings have been given already, and the further question asked only of more familiar people, and most certainly NOT on every occasion.

Have a nice day.

I know that you are saying that your one American boss represents all in a nation of almost 320 million people (just as I am sure you're lying about the whole situation in the OP in the first place), but even I don't disrespect Singapore enough to project that you are representative of everybody in your little neighborhood of a country.

I just feel sorry for Singapore.

FUCK I HATE that when people actually express concern and care about me!!!

Because asking, "How are you?" isn't caring to me. It's just an annoyingly fake greeting.

Also when a stranger ask, 'How are you?" Do you think the stranger actually gives a shit? No!

He was just doing robotic polite shit.

I say let's find these bastards and publicly eviscerate them.

Edwird -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/6/2017 2:27:23 AM)

Drawing and quartering ("drawn and quartered").

We need to bring that back.

Especially for offenses such as this.

What we Americans can't figure out, being the unsophisticates that we are, is why they needed somebody to make a drawing of them before somebody else ripped their guts out.

cloverodella -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/6/2017 12:50:43 PM)

I'm 100% Midwest-American and I whole-heartedly agree with you.

Most people don't expect an answer other than "I'm fine, thanks. You?" Hell, that's the only answer they want, especially at work. Most people don't seem to notice when I reply with just "good morning".

Personally, I never ask unless I want an actual answer. Usually when I ask "how are you?" they'll say "fine, thanks" and then I'll look at them and say "no, I actually mean it, how are you? are you really fine? you can tell me, i want to know." After a few times, they start giving me an actual answer.

I don't like empty pleasantries.

240 million if you wish to get technical 200 million ;)

LadyPact -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/6/2017 2:22:42 PM)

Want to know the best way to get somebody to stop asking that question? Instead of saying you're fine or something else frivilous, try this, instead.

"Are you sure you really want to know?"

Guess how long it takes for them to STOP asking you that.

If a chic said that to me..I'd ask her out for a date.

If a guy said that...I'd reach for my carry.

(And....if a chic like YOU said that...I'd buy her a house).

Then why were you defending saying "How are you?" As a normal social culture AS IF it is normal in your culture? If now you are saying it's not normal for Americans for ask, "How are you?" Every single day?

Uhhhhhmmmm....perhaps you can read the context?

Not defending, explaining.

I gave the circumstances under which it was normal, none of which indicated first communication upon every meeting, in every instance.

Not that someone with such low comprehension skills as you could figure it out.

In any case, there's not a person I deal with on any semi-regular basis who says that more than occasionally, and so it is actually genuine in intent. I've dealt with people from all over the country and never once had this said to me more than a few times. More common is "How have you been?" which is just a variant of "What have you been up to?" "How's it going?" etc. Your whole point is that annoys you because it's 'fake.'

Your unmitigated stupidity is definitely genuine.

The context is correct.

I was complaining about people saying 'How are you?" At work to you every single day.

And he said that, It's just a standard introduction to further normal social discourse, the latter of which you seem to not be very good at in real life.

He called it "standard". Now he is saying No Americans does it?

My whole topic was about people asking you, "How are you?" every day! And how irritating it is!

It is polite to acknowledge someone... are you looking at them as the approach? How would you like to be acknowledged... or would you rather be ignored?

I know i shouldn't say it... but I am...WOMEN

You can acknowledge someone by simply looking at them, and smiling and nodding. I've always said hi with my eyes. No words needed.

And I never ever ask anybody 'How are you?'. If I see someone who looks in distress, I may ask, "Is everything okay? Let me know if I can help." That's about it.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/8/2017 2:21:26 AM)

Nope, doesn't bother me. I like to vary my answers with, "just peachy, and you?" Or "bless your heart, don't ask and I won't bore you with the details." Sometimes I'll say, "I'll let you know after I finish my coffee."

kiwisub22 -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/9/2017 8:44:41 AM)

The one that annoys me - mildly, on Saturdays and in restaurants or shops - is "Have a good one".

Good what????? Sexual encounter, drive home, child? And if I don't have a good one, have I violated a social convention and will be reprimanded, and exactly who keeps score?
It puts sooooo much pressure on me and I can't take it any more........ stop, please - and just tell me to fuck off, cause then I can be all like "fuck you" and dismiss you completely as a jerk........

MAINEiacMISTRESS -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/9/2017 9:57:58 AM)

I just consider "How are you?" a polite part of greeting etiquette. The proper response is to say, "I am well/fine, and yourself?" and then move quickly to the actual topic of intent (some people view it as an excuse to share persinal drama, which in most cases is TooMuchInformation) I do however occasionally respond with, "I'm sadistic" and walk away leaving them trying to analyze what I meant. A common response to "How are you?" might be an enthusiastic, "I'm fabulous!" which (despite what you're REALLY going through), starts the conversation on a positive, even playful note. In which case you often can get much better, friendlier service at businesses than if you give them your depressing life history of medical ailments and family deaths.

I actually don't mind that one. I just see it as good wishes. Better than saying, "Have a bad one!"

Greta75 -> RE: Does anybody else hate..... (7/9/2017 7:54:05 PM)

My BFF who is American sometimes forget and slip into, a very warm "How are you?" when we meet up to hang out. And I'd be like giving him the WTF look and be saying, "What? You know how I am doing! And what's going on in my life! I tell you everyday!"

And he'd just be like, "Hey, I'm just greeting!" And I'd be like, "I know! But isn't it a ridiculous question?"

I think it's just one of my pet peeve! I just hate people asking me that question. And it irritates me more if it's a stranger.

I think it's just the whole concept of that question. That it is most asked when people don't care to know. That is absolutely ridiculous! Like how did that become a polite greeting in life? It should just be asked when giving genuine concern for someone. Not as an everyday polite greeting.

Greta!!!

If someone walks up to you on a Tuesday morning and says "Hey Babe...how are you doing?"

Why don't you say..."I'm doing well".

Is this some chic thing?

Guys being guys....always looking less than at your eyes thing?

We're guys....always looking for some advantage....

Where's the negative in saying..."it's all good"

?
