The article you have linked to says nothing of the sort. US Attorney Ravi Sinha "recommended a sentence with a focus on treatment" and the offender has received in-patient treatment on top of being sentenced to eight months home detention, three years on probation, $3,000 restitution and has to abstain from alcohol. Programmes in other states have included such combinations of detention, probation and treatment orders for men as well as women. You may think that the sentence is not harsh enough but men have also received similar sentences.
