I'm always astonished that The Outer Limits or somebody never filmed van Vogt's "Seesaw" as far as time travel stories go. It'd need either a voiceover inner narrative or infodumping to himself monologue from the protagonist, I suppose, but it'd work pretty well for a half hour of telly, that aside.

To be fair, I read part of this thread before we went to see the movie. (By the way, thanks for no actual spoilers.) As mentioned, I'm in the category of people who are more into the film for the entertainment value than whether the premise is completely plausible. The discussion about it has been interesting on the thread and I looked for a couple of Jeff's points in the movie, but only as momentary thought. (Sorry, Jeff.)

The film was money well spent. I know I've said that about other films this spring/summer but I think anybody who liked the first two will have a good time with the third. The theater was full for the show time we had planned on, so we ended up catching a later time at the theater. It happened to be one of the viewings in 3D. Holy crud! Even if the movie had sucked, I'd have still been amazed by how much better 3D is now than it was back in the day. (Yes, I know I'm behind the times.) If a person only spends the extra for certain films for 3D, this one is a pretty good bet.

That aside, the story line was good. I thought Woody Harellson was very good in his role. The guy really does have some acting talent in there.

I don't think this will be the last PoTA flick. Not just because I tend to be cynical of the Hollywood money making machine. There's definitely potential there for a creative script writer to go beyond this trilogy in a next chapter kind of way. I think fans would go for it, if Hollywood gave this another go-round.

Just the thought of Chimps being used for testing just sounds terrible,

I take a hike on this path venturing around the back of Emory University on a semi-regular basis. A research concern associated with the university uses chimpanzees to test cures for humans regarding various and sundry diseases. The university's biological and medical research facilities are in this case in service to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Their campus is just a couple of blocks down the street from the uni.

Once out of every 20-25 times or so on such hikes I hear the chimps making a ruckus. One of them insults another, and then it gets uncivil.

It is a prison, no question, but a much more civil prison than what humans provide for their own kind. Being in Singapore, you should know all about uncivil prisons for humans. As we do here in the US, in fact.

Is this not as bad, or worse than, the rabbits who have their eyeballs rubbed with various cosmetics to test for safety on human gold-digging bitches?

"Planet Of The Rabbits." The eye lash test subjects lash out at humans.

In any case, one good thing to come out of all that for me personally is that I got to see Baroness Jane van Lawick-Goodall at the local natural foods store located just a block and a half down the street. She was giving a lecture on something or another at the neighborhood university.

In my past career, I worked in the periphery of 'big name' people on a regular basis. But I don't know that I've ever got a bigger thrill than being only 3 feet away from Dr. Jane Goodall as she was asking someone where the herbs were located in the small store. With great effort, I held my own post and didn't intrude upon the efforts of a duly assigned store person.

Plausible plot as we all know the human race was genetically engineered by Aliens - obviously they fucked up Trump's chromosomes - Heh but still :)
