jlf1961 -> I must have lost what is left of my mind (7/28/2017 3:23:13 PM)

Sister in her never ending battle for economizing, convinced me that we needed to purchase a small vehicle for every day use, something with good fuel economy.

To that end, we purchased a KIA Soul.

First, I feel the company name is an ill omen, I mean Killed In Action as the name of a car company?

Now it has plenty of room up front for a six foot tall individual, but the seats seem to be nothing more than Upholstered unpadded benches. The damn thing tries to connect to my phone as soon as I get in the car, which is fine except when a call comes in then the blue tooth system forgets there is a volume control....

And to be honest, the horn would be more at home on some child's pedal car or tricycle.

Otherwise, it is good on gas, and has the ability to make you believe you are crawling when you are actually doing 85 in a 55 (no, I did not get pulled over, but I looked down and then realized I was passing everything) which is unnerving, in my pickup I know how fast I am going by the feel of the road.

New cars are much quieter than older ones. The quieter it is, the slower you think you're going.

Does it have 55 at high noon? My Passat had 80 there, set for the Autobahn. Now that took getting used to.

If it puts your mind at ease, the Kia Soul got very high ratings out of U.S. News & World Report.

nope, 70 is at high noon, according to the speedo, it will do 140.....

However, in that it is an extremely short wheelbase and thus is squirrely as hell when it comes to steering, I have no intentions on getting it up there to see.

I know that.

However, I must point out that the smallest vehicle I have ever driven was a 69 superbeetle converted to a BAJA rig with a Porshe Turbo Carrara motor in it (the addition of which necessitated the installation of 4 fifty pound bags of cement mix in the nose to keep the front tires on the ground, in other words, the first time i popped the clutch I thought it was going to end up on its back.)

Other than that it has been pickups, jeeps (cj 3, 5 and 7) and pre 73 muscle cars (with a bit of engine modifications to get a itsy bit more horsepower, if you want to have fun, get pulled over for doing 190 on I20 between Fort Worth and Weatherford Tx, the highway patrol officers have no sense of humor.)

Funny thing is...I know that stretch of highway and no, the DPS does not have any sense of humor...

I never really knew you had a mind given many past comments you have made villifying and mocking others/
