peppermint -> An Amazing Man (7/29/2017 9:06:33 PM)

This week it has been 12 years since I met my Dom, Garbar here on collarspace. What is more amazing is that this week he had a personal anniversary of sorts. July 27th was the 16th anniversary of his lung transplant. To put this into perspective, the average life span of someone with a single lung transplant is 4.6 years. Those who live longer are usually young and get both lungs replaced. He got one lung and was 60 years old at the time of transplant.

We met at an event called In The Woods. It took place in the mountains of WA state. He and some friends from Montana decided to drive over to see what the event was like. I had only been to a couple munches and decided to attend the event. I had met Seattle Dom a couple times and he was interested in attending the event. We agreed to meet there and I would be his submissive for the event. We were both happy to have someone we kind of knew there. We set up camp next to each other and next to a group of people from Montana.

The event included a slave auction to make money. I wasn't a participant, however, the Dom I was with had met a lovely Canadian lady he was interested in having a session with. Garbar had already played with the lady and wanted to play with her again. They were bidding against each other at the auction. Finally, Garbar looked at the Dom I was with and said he'd stop bidding if he could have me instead. The Dom I had met there had no problem with giving me up to attain his desire. This whole time I was at my campsite.

Anyway, Garbar and I had a lot of fun for the rest of the event. He impressed me with his upbeat and positive attitude even with his health issues. We spent some good times in the dungeon. By the way, that dungeon in the middle of the woods up in the mountains was so cold at night you could see your breath even though it was July. Before he and his Montana friends left we exchanged phone numbers and emails.

Over the next 3 months we talked nearly daily. We got to know each other and got a feel for what the other was looking for. He drove the 600 miles to my house. I had some vacation time so we spent the next 2 weeks traveling in his motor home. He met my family. I met the family he had in WA. He took me to his transplant doctor appointments so I would know what I was getting into. Then he headed south to AZ for the winter.

Three months later I had taken a leave of absence from my job and headed south to spend some time in sunny AZ with Garbar. We got along pretty well. At the end of my leave of absence I never returned. No, I can't say I loved him yet but I did like him a lot. It took more months before I admitted that I had found a wonderful love.

Over the years we've been through good times and bad times. I have been told several times that he would not live through the night. His heart doctor calls him the energizer bunny because he just keeps on going and going and going. We used that motor home well. Have been to nearly every national park in the west. We'd plan each trip north in the spring and south in the fall to see as much of our lovely country that we could see. We'd attend events. We went to munches whenever we could find them. That wasn't always easy before fet.

I had always meant to write something about our meeting in Positive Experiences. Just been lazy and never got around to it. However, tonight he is spending yet another night in Intensive Care. His lungs are not doing well. This is the 4th time he's been to the hospital and the second admission in the past 1 1/2 weeks. Have to admit I'm damned scared this time as he isn't showing any signs of improvement.

When people ask if we're married we always make a joke of it. He's been married and divorced 3 times so I tell people that I won't marry a loser. He then tells his side of the story. He tells them I've been married twice and they are both dead. He figures his odds wouldn't be good if we married. Guess we never felt the need to marry. It wouldn't change anything at all. He is the love of my life.

Oh, many people know that garbar's name is Gary. Obviously from my nick I'm Pat. We have enjoyed being a part of this forum over the years.

Tomorrow I meet with the Hospice people. This is happening way too fast. Less than 2 weeks ago he was singing karaoke.

Thank you for sharing your story and I am so sorry for what you are both going through now.

Thank you, Spiritedsub2 and AngelikiaJ. Now that we've talked with the Hospice people we are both feeling better. They will do their best to keep him out of the hospital and at home. Right now we're just working on getting him well enough to go play Bingo at our local bar on Tuesday. He's home and we got to cuddle together last night and really, that is more important than a lot of other issues.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: An Amazing Man (8/2/2017 6:03:02 PM)

That is good to hear. The best to you both.

jadedblessing -> RE: An Amazing Man (8/27/2017 3:59:43 PM)

My prayers are with you both!

Thank you, jadedblessing. Gary is doing pretty well actually. He still has bad days when all he wants to do is sleep, however, he is now having more good days than bad. He can play bingo again which is one of the ways I judge how well his brain is working. When he's bad his sister and I sit on either side of him to help him mark his cards. Last night he played 6 cards for the blackout game and didn't need any help. As I said when I started this thread, he is amazing. Doesn't matter that the doctors said he is dying. He refuses to die until he's ready.

Sorry for the not so positive end to this. Gary quietly passed away this morning. He was doing well and we attended munch on Saturday. Sunday he became weak. His favorite song was Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and that is how he lived his life.

angelikaJ -> RE: An Amazing Man (9/20/2017 2:22:40 PM)

I am so sorry for your loss.

It is a positive end. You made each other happy and you were by his side right till the end. Every human got limited life span, and we don't know when it's our last day or our love ones last day. But while we live, it's a gift to be able to spend it with the ones we love and provide comfort and joy to them right till the end. That's how till death do us part works I suppose.

Hope you have loads of family and friends around you during this difficult period.
